I have a few of those boxes like Millie has. Also a few boxes with handles and little compartments in from B&Q.

I'm still trying to find a way to best store all my finishes products.

  • Hi - I was thinking of putting together a gift set for my mum for Christmas. I think she'd enjoy bead work as it would be something completely new to her. Can anyone suggest please some of the items I'd need to put together a basic set for her?

    Any advice appreciated, thanks.

It depends what type of beading you would like for her...i.e seed beading, or glass, lampwork beads etc?
  • Hi BabyKat - I'm not overly familiar with it myself, but having looked a little online I think seed beading would probably be good. I just want to set her up with something basic so she can fiddle and make some bits and pieces.

I have a bit of a problem at the moment. I am trying to find some flexible wire for jewellery. I don't want memory wire, or anything that doesn't coil easily or can't be reshaped. That sounds a bit picky, but most of them are totally impossible to shape or are really hard.
    Can anybody help me?
    thanks

Go for something like a 0.6mm or 0.8mm silver plated wire. Most places sell them in about 10m lengths I think. I've never had any problem shaping that for tiaras. 0.4mm might be alright as well, depends what you need it for.

okay seed beeding...ive just started making stuff with seed beads myself.
I would say for a basic kit......beads, beading needles, clasps, thread...nymo thread and some thread heaven to condition the thread.
I have just bought a bead spinner too which looks like fun...
Heres a nice shop where i get all my beads you should get most of the things there

get a few pack of 20g beads as this is plenty to get started.
Have a look on the net for a few seed bead patterns and print them out and include them in your kit.
give me a shout if you need a help with anything else
