It has to be down to different departments not knowing the true situation then, as I (and many other people obviously) received an invitation to take up this card, as a ‘valued’ customer. They didn’t have to do that mailing (which was actually a second mailing to us) if they were under pressure.

Well as I say I don't know what the delay is but there clearly is some backlog. I got my card through fairly quickly, nothing to do with being an Abbey staff member. Indeed I managed to find my pre-approved application on the system today. Hopefully there will be an update shortly on your case.

Mmm… Yes. I just can’t see how it can be made so complicated. Let’s say there are five steps to do the job, then a pre-approved app would surely just drop into the system at say, stage three? Then it simply follows the usual stages. Every phone call to date has had the response of ‘Can’t see it’ and ‘Don’t know’.
There is no method at the moment of logging Application calls i.e calling about general progress of application enquiry.

    Hi all

When I applied for my Abbey Zero card a requested a £10k balance transfer. But I only got a £5k limit. (Maybe I've stoozed too much:D ).
If you appeal shortly to the underwriters, they may reconsider.
Am I right in thinking Abbey will still do the balance transfer on 95% of my £5k limit?
They should do. That would be 4750 in this case.
Also, will it happen automatically? or do I need to contact Abbey?
My 0% finishes on the other card in September, so I'm hoping it happens before then.

    Thanks

It should be done automatically still despite the lower limit.

How far is the application so far? Got the Acceptance letter yet and returned it, or got the PIN?

Check with Abbey when you get the card or PIN that the BT has been done. If it hasn't or it hasn't been done upto the 95% mark, that can be sorted once you get the card.

It seems "Abbey" cannot add additional cardholders once account is opened. Their is no option on their system to add additional cardholder, they can cancel it though!

The only way to add an additional cardholder is at the time of application.

    What a mess!!
That is correct. Cardholders cannot be added after the application stage. However I fail to understand how yours just went through as a sole cardholder. Branch can do nothing about that. The only option really is to apply again (after closing the original card), however you could still get turned down so soon in reapplying.

We can't cancel cardholders either, even with the mechanisms to do it. Either the branch do that or best to write to Abbey HQ to remove cardholders.

Ooh, my PIN arrived. I guess that's a good sign. Just need the card and welcome stuff now :p
Ah now see, I said you'd get the card by the middle of August! My confidence has been justified. You should get the card early next week, or at least inside the next seven days.

Yep, got the lot and I've just activated the card. It all happened really quickly.

Just hope the transfer happens as smoothly.

    Thanks HamiltonL for your help.

No worries. Was the BT done for the amount specified? That should be 0% until at least 1/1/09.

T&C of Abbey Zero card states:

4.1 You can ask us to issue an additional card to up to 3 people you nominate as long as they are eligible for a card.

Nowhere it states "at the time of application"

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

No, they'll do 100% which is what i've done for stoozing purposes.

I got VERY excited today when there was a letter on the mat from Abbey at Bradford.

Unfortunately it was only a letter from the head of card operations, asking for details of my change of address. Well, guess what, I haven’t changed address in 33 years.

In 1975 it was Abbey National who I took out the mortgage with, at this address. So for 25 years they wrote to me about this and that, and I dutifully paid the mortgage every month.

I would PMSL if this wasn’t costing me money.

Has anyone spotted the flaw in them writing? Elementary my dear Watson. If they think my address has changed, why write to that address?

They have three headed letters of complaint from me now, clearly showing my telephone number, and my email address. Neither of those were used, no, instead they wrote to an address that they think is incorrect.

I think it’s sweet that the head of card operations finds time to write change of address letters. If I was her, I’d be down on the shop floor, having donned some Doc Martens boots, and I’d be using them to adjust the posteriors of the so called managers running this shambles.

Well yes that is also something that needs to be looked upon.

However, I'ver worked for Abbey for over two years and to my memory, of the tens of thousands of calls I have taken, not a single one has ever been to add a cardholder to an account (excluding customers who applied for a joint account but ended up with just one cardholder) during the lifetime of their credit card.
