New card - Abbey Zero

How on earth can you get an overlimit fee when you've not exceeded the limit ? There is nothing in the T&C's which states you cannot do a 100% BT and as there are no fees or interest it would be impossible to exceed any given limit.
Yes there is (at least in my T&Cs there is). It states that the total amount of balance transfers cannot exceed 95% of the credit limit.0 -

Then perhaps you can furnish us with a link to those T&C's here or advise exactly what paragraph of the T&C's it's contained in and the date of those T&C's, which will be on the credit agreement.
As I said before my T&C's mention nothing of the sort and if there was Abbey wouldn't have BT'd my account up to the credit limit.0 -

Excel1966, as I think we have established the information supplied by Abbey (or Santander as they are now known) appears to be full of contradiction.
Aswell as being informed of this silly rule of backdating the 0% period to the 1st of the month, I was also informed that I could only Balance Transfer up to 95% of my Credit Limit, and despite my protestations about there being no fee, so I should be allowed 100% they insisted that they would only do 95%.
You appear to have been lucky with the CSA that you spoke to because you managed to get the full 6 months and 100% Balance Transfer.0 -
You're right about the contradiction as many people have been given 100% BT's and many 95% as proved by other sites, but I have never ever seen that condition in writing anywhere.
I applied in branch late in the day so application couldn't be processed there and then, but was told it would be done first thing in the morning and I would be called. At 10am Abbey called with confirmation of acceptance, advised credit limit and asked what BT's I'd like. Gave details up to the Full limit and a few days later they were done and card received.
I wonder whether BT's at application stage/in branch are processed at 100% and those after receipt of card at 95% ? I could look thru the other forums, but don't have time to check that.0 -
Whilst I haven't got the terms and conditions on me right now, I can confirm the details on the pre-approved form I got, and the special 'cardboard cards' (on the BT slip) state that you're only permitted to transfer upto 95% of the available credit limit.not_loaded wrote: »I really don’t know how to handle this. There is no change of address, so I should travel 5 miles to my nearest branch to do a ‘change of details’ where nothing has changed? They will think I’m bonkers, as there is no change. My address on the Abbey system agrees with my actual address.
It isn’t rocket science.
I know it sounds silly I have to admit, but it is totally feasible that something very minor may not be compatable between your address and the Abbey address on their systems (it can vary for different products, from a mortgage to a current account). Even if you are receiving mail, that small error might be what is preventing the Bradford team sending the card out.
That's just my theory. I would speak to Abbey again (0845 602 1582) and see if you can get everything verified by a supervisor first before popping down to the branch if you have to.0 -

The only mention of any kind of limit is 50% for cash transactions. There's nothing about 95% for BT's.
* Might be a 'time limited' link, so apologies if it fails later.0 -

My personal copy of t&C's also mention the 50% cash limitation, but no other limitations whatsoever, Dated 10/07/08
The Zero Booklet flyer dated April 08 also states exactly the same.0 -

Unfortunately it was only a letter from the head of card operations, asking for details of my change of address. Well, guess what, I haven’t changed address in 33 years.
This happened to me shortly after I applied for Abbey Zero. They sent me a form for "change of address". I also had not moved, or even had an open account. The branch staff could not explain it.0 -
I phoned them today to ask for the third time where my credit agreement was. They said their system showed that I had been approved for the card on 25th July 2008 and that they were waiting for me to send back the credit agreement. They are now going to send out another copy of the credit agreement (was there ever a first?) which will take, you guessed it... 7 to 10 working days
Think I'll be using my Capital One card for my BT at this rate.0 -

... and me
It prompted me to go back and do a trial on the online application form again to check that I wasn't imagining it when it asked for your address, and when you have less than 3 years, it then asks for your previous address on the next page. I was even going to phone to ask if I had an account open with them that I had forgotten about (as we moved earlier this year and I thought I had sent change of address to everyone required, and have mail forwarding) but it seems that there is a glitch on their system. I say that, as if they ran a credit check it would clearly show up my current and previous address, as both Experian and Equifax show the change of address and electoral roll. It seems odd that they are manually doing an identity/address check before processing the application/running the credit check?
A complete bother having to go into town just for this.
