Mind you they do come in handy as a huge Toasted Sandwhich Maker

Ive got one of these and they are really really good for the price.

And the build quality is excellent, German engineering at its best.

Medion only re-badge stuff. It probably hasn't been anywhere near Germany ever.

This is true - I got a Medion mp3 player. It is not the best quality thing I have ever used and I have seen them on ebay with loads of different manufacturers' names on them.

then you see its a celeron which is about the same speed as a P4 1.5 ghz.

The trick with a celeron processor is the generation that you buy. I find the latest celeron M processors perform as well (almost) as a standard non multi-threaded Pentium 4. Never depend on the build of Windows with the PC, rebuilt it and download and run a tool like Tune-Up Utilities 2004 to performance tune it. If you're a more advanced user then you'll know what to do yourself.

I use my celeron laptop regularly for software development and find it performs more than adequately.

Unless it's got dedicated 3D chipset hardware for graphics with it's own memory then forget games for the most part. (At least FarCry anyway! :) )

I would wager than, games aside, more people never really use the power of their desktops anyway. I've certainly found that across the thousands of PCs I work with in an IT department of a company supporting other companies systems.

This is a great deal. Add a laptop-based Digi-TV tuner and this is a winner in my opinion. You can set it near your bed, etc and you also get a TFT TV out of it. Shouldn't cost more than 30/40 pounds.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

There was a thing on the news recently about Chinese shirts - in order to get round the new quotas on Chinese goods, companies ship the shirts (half completed) to Hong Kong, add four stitches, and ship them back to China. By doing this they can legally call the goods "made in Hong Kong" and avoid the quotas. Could be something similar here to get the quality sounding "made in Germany" mark.
  • Do you guys know how much it should cost for a memory upgrade?
I'd need at least 512Mb to run a specif software decently.

If it's not too expensive, then I'll go for it.

I even phoned customer support in England and asked them If it was all German stuff
and the operator even said yes and said that hes still amazed at the quality,

He wasnt selling me anything so no patter, I phoned for a replacement XP
install disk as I lost mine so he shipped one out from there production line
I got it in the post 3days later with a label saying Medion.de product of Germany.

So its German, sorry but well it is I cant change that. Germany
