I bank with RBS and my current account is at a scottish branch but I live in england.
If your account is based at a Scottish branch, you account will remain with RBS.0 -

Anyway a month prior to applying for the account online, I contacted RBS customer services because the Child branch option was missing from branch locator. I was told by the customer services operator that the child branch option was temporarily removed from the choose a branch prompt on the online application, and would be reinstated as an branch opening option in late November. The CS operative elaborated that this is probably due to change over of the existing stock of Child branded debit cards to be replaced by the contactless child branded cards. Probably and educated guesses don't particularly answer what is being queried on this forum, however it is interesting what I was told.

In regards to the branch being removed, it sounds like a load of rubbish to me.
It would be nice to get a contactless Child card.:rotfl:0 -
Liverpool50082 wrote: »Try manually inputting the sort code for Child London (158000) as opposed to attempting to inputting "Fleet Street London" when asked to nominate a opening branch. This worked for me, I applied online last week and when I received the paper application documents to sign a few days later, it clearly reads that my opening branch is "Child London". So now let's see if I receive a Child & Co branded card and cheque book or the generic RBS debit card and cheque book.
There are two Child sort codes, A "Fleet street branch" code, which is not 158000, and the "Childs branch" which is 158000.
The method RBS use to decide if you get a child card is yet to be decoded.;) The sort code you have is not connected to which branded card they will give.0 -

Having previously spoke to a RBS CS operator, I was told that all RBS branches in England and Wales will be transferred to Williams and Glyn. However..... RBS Child and RBS Drummond are the only two non Scotland based branches that will remain RBS. Within RBS it is spoken about in hushed tones that if an current account applicant wishes to open an account now before the W&G transfer that he/she is advised to nominate RBS Child or RBS Drummond regardless whether the applicant is local to these two branches or not. Your account should be fine, your nominated local branch is Scotland based so even though you are living in England it's irrelevant to RBS because your nominated branch won't be affected by the W&G transfer. I live in Wales and The RBS CS operator confirmed that when the W&G transfer happens, even though my home address is in Wales, my account will not be moved and will remain RBS because my nominated branch won't be affected by the W&G transfer.0 -
I seriously need to remove the things I don't use on a regular.
why do I need my EHIC, Caxton card, a 2 year out of date Neteller card and the old BITE card?! Among many other things like salt sachets...0 -
When I contacted Customer services a month prior to applying online, the operator advised me when the RBS Child branch option is reinstated to use the sort code 158000 when nominating a opening branch and the CS even went as far as to say that "as long as your internal credit score within RBS is is not poor, you get issued a nice navy branded Child card and cheque book by using this sort code, I kid you not, seriously!0

I'm new to this forum, hence the two posts. I've noticed a lot of posts regarding Child and Co, so I thought I'd lose my forum virginity and throw my two cents in. Considering I've recently applied for a RBS account and nominated Chold and Co, I just fancy sharing my experience with applying for the RBS Account and seeing if hopefully RBS issue the Child card. Regarding the RBS CS's stance that the Child option was temporarily removed, I agree totally it does sound like a load of rubbish, perhaps the powers to be at RBS have cottoned on to the fact that too many of us mere mortal peasants are only nominating Child London to obtain the posh debit card, thus discouraging joe bloggs from applying.
Also, a contactless Child debit card.... I concur, that would be awesome.0 -

Just for the novelty!
My sentiments exactly. However I thought I'd take the plunge and apply. If the card issued is a Child branded debit card then fantastic, if not I won't be too disappointed because I'll still get the posho Child cheque book, and RBS have offered me a larger overdraft facility than the Barclays account I'm currently closing down. I received a text from RBS earlier today informing me that the debit card will be delivered in the next 3 working days, I'll let you know what card I receive, then you'll have a fair idea of whether it's worth the credit search footprint on your credit file.0 -
I was with Child and Co for about 2 years. Apart from a fancy debit card the customer service was no better and they didn't offer anything special or go the extra mile. So I moved.....0
