martindow wrote:I personally tried yesterday the fist number mentionned here for Freenet (website freenet.de). I don't understand anything since it is in german, but it does not matter as far as it works! I just dialled my 1899 prefixe, followed by the 0049 blabla number, chose my own username and password, and in seconds I was logged in. I stayed connected 1h40 yesterday without problems, so I am pretty happy about it for 3p/connection! I did check my call1899 account this morning, they effectively charged me only 3p. So as long as call1899 prices to Germany will stay, I'll stick with that trick. Thanks again Oliverkinne
Well it charged me 14p for 22 minutes, is it stilll working for you?If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
alykhalil wrote:my apologies..i thought i did mention that. I use the IrDA port of my laptop and my mobile fone, link then, dial from my laptop Irda port into my mobile fone by a dial-up on a 0845 number. i am with vodafone, 1000 off-peak mins.
so this way a dial-up screen on my laptop, after entering the ISP dial-up number, will dial from my mobile fone but vodafone is too expensive dialling 0845 number. hope i am being clear now. thks...
so it seems that you don't need 1899 or similar
what you really need is an ISP with an ordinary landline number to use your inclusive minutes
That Vodafone deal is available SIM-only very cheaply. It could be worth getting another one or two.0 -

YES, that very very true, i need an ISP with an ordinary lanline number to dial upto....but does vodafone do those. can you pls direct me ? since i have about 3-4 PAYG vodafone sims and 1 on contract. cheers...0 -
It would be your ISP's number, not Vodafone's route to it. Ask the ISP CS.
You could also think of using the Onspeed compression accelerator, which would make pages load faster, and so reduce time online for intensive sessions.0 -
I have used a "landline dial up number" for my ISP ( spare in case of BB going down)
used fine with a certain carrier ( free evening/ weekend local calls ) , and 18866 ( daytime- connection fee only)- latter is slow and often drops , but works ( although I usually give up)

Used IrDA to an orange contract , and they charged me ( knowws it data I suppose)
BUT would like the chance to use a cheap off peak mobile contract in laptop
My new laptop does not have IrDA nor bluetooth, any good idea on combination of Cards / usb with a particular phone.
I am I right in assuming that dial up via a mobile/ laptop is different ( cheaper) to GPRS service?Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
