this made me think, as we are quite savvy shoppers and buy reduced items to freeze etc, only buy brands when a good offer and most items are own or value. however realised there are still some items that we have never tried the value range of - so we intend to try these the next shop we do.
I've been buying this one recently. It's not a 'Hot' Chilli sauce so you will probably need to really spice it up for your tastes. It suits me fine and I prefer a mild-medium sauce.
You'll also find a SP Casserole Sauce and a SP Curry Sauce in the same size jar with same label. Just be careful getting them out of the cupboad.
I also add a tin of kidney beans to the chilli sauce, some dried mixed herbs, chilli powder and tin of SP chopped tomatoes as well as the minced beef, onions, chopped peppers (frozen ones are good value) and some sweetcorn. It makes loads of chilli (I cook it in the wok!) so I get lots left over to freeze in tubs.0 -

well - I've just seen the front page of The Independent today - beyond ridiculous. Havent these farmers ever heard of selling fruit on a "pick your own" basis? Duh!
It's an article about fruit being left to rot in the fields - as they can't get enough workers to pick it.

Oh - have you all seen Sky News this morning
British Gas are putting their prices up again and they reckon it will be up by 30% by Winter.
Going to have to cut back in other areas again to try and cover this rise - I am not with BG but I am sure the others will follow.

I was going to cook and freeze a batch of chilli last week and peppers had gone up from 69p each to £1.07!! I can't believe that the veg for the chilli cost more than the meat, I used to add extra veg to bulk it out, now what do I do?:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0

i always add a handful of value porridge oats to any mince dish i cook to bulk it up, or you could add a handful of red lentils ( or both
) or you can even add a handful of breadcrumbs you've made from stale bread...all of these work, just remember to add a bit more gravy/water so its not too dry

I hate spending money on peppers so I'm growing my own in a growbag in the garden. £1.49 per plant plus £2 for the grow bag (fingers crossed). I buy frozen sliced peppers in Asda. A big 1Kg bag for £1.19 and it has already been de-seeded and sliced ready for use. 1Kg is probably the same as 8-10 peppers when the insides are binned.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
You could add some grated carrot and soya mince."This site is addictive!"

 Sainsburys have just put up the price of their Bread flour to 89p:mad: I dont understand how they can justify such a rise...it was 48p last week
It is now more expensive than the hovis flour at 85p!! I was really annoyed but got the hovis because I needed some. On the way home I decided to call into lidl because I had forgoten something and they have bread flour still at 48p so I got 3 bags(I didnt know they sold it grrr). Now I have lots of bread flour and no where to put it but at least I wont have to get it from sainsburys during my weekly shop again:rolleyes:
