I've got my first interview tomorrow if you're interested. Running the back office of another hedge fund so similar to what I'm up to now but fewer hours and a lot more cash (40% fewer hours and 100% more cash is the target).

And they say teachers are being greedy wanting 4.5% :p

Good luck Generali... I've got everything crossed for you...and at my age there's a lot of body parts I can cross!

  • am I the only one who was gobsmacked at the price the builder quoted for the concealed door? £2000? - for a few bricks to be knocked out, a catnic, a door lining & a standard fire door?

I took a pretty big pay cut to take this job so it only really returns me to where I was.

    I thought £700-1000.

I think it might be that classic builder trick "I don't want the job, I'll price it out of madam's pocket"

She was probably quite hard to work for.

When you've got it, the first thing you need is a highly-motivated, independent-thinking, superbly organised, ever reliable project manager.Give me a PM, ballpark is £50k for me to start talking.

Mmm. We are a nation with houses designed on the whim of our builders. :(

the plasterer we used did this - he went to look at a job - didn't really want it so gave a stupid price - if they agreed then it was worth the hassle - he also looks at the area of a house & prices it on supposed ability to pay - so the same job in 2 different areas of a town could differ by about 50 %
