Do quality applicances help sell a kictchen?

  • The one great advantage that integrated appliances have is that they make a small kitchen look much larger because all the units look more streamlined.

And, as someone else mentioned, they don't have to be a 'brand'. Brands do matter when buying a house that is obviously newly refurbished - because the kind of people who are prepared to pay a premium for a newly refurbished house are often very "lifestyle" orientated.

Designer fridges and range cookers are quite useful in negotiations - the last time we sold, we told the agent at the second stage of negotiations that if the buyer came up to asking price, we'd stop all marketing and throw in all the Smeg appliances. We didn't tell him we were moving into a rented place and couldn't keep the appliances anyway;)

I own all bosch but I wouldn't go for a bosch washing machine or oven again - you can't grill in them.

    Give me back my hotpoint.

I'm not sure even Hotpoint washing machines come with a grill?

I might be wrong, they could be all the rage nowadays, lol

  • It might make the house easier to sell, if two identical properties came on the market at the same price and one had a nice kitchen with nice appliances, I might go for it instead of the other one. I wouldn't expect to pay anything extra though.

We once paid for carpets in a house we bought, £500, a lot of years ago, they looked great and downstairs they were, but upstairs they were just fitted round the beds, so we had to buy new upstairs carpets anyway.

The next house we bought the vendor tried to sell the carpets to us, we told them to take them with them, they didn't.

If I was leaving something behind in a house it would be because I didn't want to take it with me, I wouldn't look to make money from it.

And I certainly wouldn't pay money for someone else's 2nd hand stuff again.

For me, one of nicer parts of moving is getting new stuff that I've chosen

    Edit: Hope I haven't offended.

No. Single, heterosexual female, well past the wrong side of 40. Not found Mr Right yet, but he might look a bit like that.

    :)

    I am never offended.

I know nothing about kitchen appliance brands but I would die laughing if I had 'SMEG' written prominently across all my shiny possessions!

I was staying quiet, but yes, it is a most unfortunate name to have .....

We sold our house last year and every viewer asked if the american style f/f and range cooker were included in the sale price. If you have enough room then I would definately consider doing that rather than paying extra for upmarket brand names.
  • I guess when I said appliances I was thinking more the built in stuff like ovens, hobs (or range cooker) and cooker hoods.

Alas I don't think we've room for a big American stylee F/F, so I think we will probably go integrated for that so that the kitchen looks more streamlined and modern. Specially as we're going for off white cupboards so white appliances might look a bit glaring and cheap?

I thought smeg was a 'desirable' brand. Interesting that some here have never heard of it or wouldn't want the brand name showing...

As a buyer I really wouldn't care too much what brand stuff was in the kitchen.
so a nice looking kitchen with some ghastly white appliances will not create as good an impression as the better looking black/grey/stainless ones.
There was a time when all appliances were White. They were called "White Goods". I think they look fine like that, but then again I'm a minimalist. Those other colours will go out of fashion on a few years time. Decking of the future.

I don't think so, many have different opinions when it comes to appliances, I had a VERY bad experience with Zanussi for example. We have Ikea cooker but it is made by Whirlpool. When we next move I'd love the space for a range but wouldn't buy a house because it had one, just the space for one. Oh and I have an American style FF which now has to live in my garage :( because it doesn't fit in the house.
One day I might be more organised...........

we have had nothing but trouble with our integrated Bosch fridge/freezer after roughly 19 months. Made me want to never ever buy that brand again.
