I assume most EAs think that good quality appliances help to sell a house because they usually mention brands like Smeg etc if they're present. Personally, good brands would encourage me to buy but I wouldn't spend any more money on the house because of them!

If I ever get a dishwasher, it'll probably look more like this I hope:

It would definitely help me choose between 2 very similar houses.

We have got a Neff oven and hob in the house we are buying which is nice, but it didn't sell the house to us, like someone else said, a nice bonus. Some that had cheap white, but not knackered items, put us off more because you can't throw away new (but crap) stuff!

Strangely, the houses we actually liked most (but didn't get) were the ones that obviously needed a whole new kitchen, as it meant I could put in the stuff I actually wanted!

If you must put some new stuff in, just make it the cheap end of the scale from a good brand (i.e. Zanussi/Bosch/John lewis etc). And not flippin' white!;)

  • I am doing my kitchen at the moment and thinking of selling in a few years time. I have gone for smeg appliances. I think it depends on the price of the house.

Personally, I would prefer a house I bought did NOT have lots of appliances. I have a fridge-freezer, a freezer, a dishwasher, a dryer and a microwave already. I would imagine many second or third-time buyers will too. A quality stove/hob is another matter, I expect those to be built in. Our rental came with integrated appliances, and it's a real pain: we have some unused stuff quietly rusting in the garage, and although having two f/f and a freezer is good for storage, it's pretty daft.

If I was designing a kitchen in your position, I'd not integrate anything, and I'd be ready to throw in the appliances for a little extra rather than assume someone would want them. What I would make sure of, given current trends, was that the kitchen was designed with enough room for a fancy 'american-style' f/f and a big - 5 or 6 burner - hob. And if there was space, a utility room, I hate having washing in a food space. It's that, not the w/m, etc, that would sell me a kitchen. But I am a very keen cook.

The day I was getting my Miele washer dryer delivered, one of the delivery guy's was complaining about it's weight...Never heard of Miele he said.....Hotpoint Best washing machine ever made.
As he was half-way up the stairs with my new mega-buck baby I did not disagree
Today, my BEST is good enough.

Built in appliances put me off several houses.

I'd echo what everybody else has said - looks are more important when coming to sell, but if you are going to live there for a year you need something practical too otherwise you'll end up smashing them up in a fit of rage when you 3 hour souffle goes wrong due to the rubbishness of the appliances.

I own all bosch but I wouldn't go for a bosch washing machine or oven again - you can't grill in them.

    Give me back my hotpoint.
