Hi all, please can anyone tell me if Windows xp will soon have to be upgraded to Vista? My hubby said he heard people at work talking about this, (they don't work in an office) some of the staff like ourselves have just a basic computer for home use. I have learned a lot about how to use our computer by going to classes locally, but I feel lost about all the different ones? I would be most grateful for help, thanks in advance.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Hi Margaret54, you will never HAVE to upgrade it. I still have Windows 98 and everything works the same way it always has.0

You will never HAVE to upgrade. However at some point in the dim and distant future people will stop developing software that will run on it and hardware that is compatible. Then you may need to but you will have probably be using a different PC by then anyway. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Don't worry XP will be around for a few years yet.
At my work I've just been given a £1500 laptop to use.(Someone likes me!) and Vista has been replaced with XP by the IT Dept.0 -

We're still working on brand new projects specifically with XP in mind for running on client machines."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Great post.
I work in IT and while Microsoft have really given us jobs, a lot of us prefer Linux.
These days, as you say, you can get an old PC and put new life into it with a Linux distro.
A lot of the latest machines are probably way over-spec for what people need but of course, it's all driven by running Vista.
Linux has put a little enjoyment back into computing.0 -

Technically it does but since few people are moving to Vista. MS will be supporting XP in some form till Windows 7 comes out (in 2010):D

Windows XP will stop being sold retail at the end of this month and Microsoft will provide support up until 2014, five years after it's discontinuation.0
