For me it's soup. I now love making my own soups. Ive got a stock of them in the freezer of family size lots and also single portions.

At the mo it is carrot and lentil, pumpkin and a vegetable soup.

Well done monkey22 :T I was brought up Old Style, so it's been gradual for me rather than a  moment :D I have learnt loads from this board (lentils, meal plans, loads of recipes :T ).

I'll add this to the existing Old Style Lighbulb Moments thread ;)

I'm not keen on 'tomatoey' stuff - especially pizza topping, but I love pizza. So my ideal is a base as garlic bread with the rest of the topping just omitting the tomato bit :D.
  • i discovered soup-making for the first time last week, and again, why did i not realise how easy it was earlier?

also, if anyone has any ideas? my OH seems to deliberately want to sabotage MS/OS etc etc and wants to spend more the less i spend:rolleyes: - on meat (i'm veggie) and also he picks things randomly off the shelf without having made sure it's the best deal etc.

when i then ask him how much something is he has put in the trolley he will even make it up if he doesn't know?! then wonder why i go mad when i check the receipt and it's double what we should pay!

aaaarrrggghhhh! i've had a bad day - rant over now:o

Good way of gaining money/losing weight. When I have a cooked meat that's going to do for more than one meal (like boiled gammon) I slice it and freeze the portions we aren't going to eat IMMEDIATELY! Saves picking bits off every time I go to the fridge and means I get more meals out of it.
  • making soup is the most wonderful thing in the world!! so easy and so, so tasty. i find it really theraputic. and cheap:D
  • This is my first post on here but I have been reading avidly for the last couple of weeks!

Having been dealing with things for the last 3 years reading the OS ideas on here has been a full on lightbulb moment. I have been managing to keep going but I know I can be more organised and save money - tried meal planning for 1 week from stuff in the freezer - the family had the list on the kitchen board and picked - can't rush them too quick into this!

My OH has noticed how this site has picked me up, my daily dose of support, ideas and a reminder to turn off the lights!!!!
One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
