Ok today i was i good girl i went through every cook book i have about 8 of them and then wrote down all the meals i would eat i came up with about 20 that i have never done before which is very good as i am such a fussy eater but 20 out of over approx 2000 recipes is not that good really what a waste of cook book when i will only use 1 recipe out of it.
Anyway i then set about sorting out Septembers meal plans worked out everything i have in the house and what i would need to buy so that tonight i could order it from tescos to arrive next week.
I know i should not be surprised but i do the same few meals now i have lots more home made meals and i am being more adventurous not that i cant cook but now the children are eating more varied i can again.
The shopping bill has come in at under £200 for the whole month and i only have the basic to buy each week on top thats all the kids p/l included in this and i am really shocked and pleased OH still does not believe me though i have even showed him how much lower the OD has got in the last 3 months but all i get ha is it this website that that makes you clean the windows with newspaper grrrr i did that anyway.
But anyway i am so proud of myself and feel so much better about everything really from the better food we are eating to the more green i have become and the money i am saving and  to everyone who posts on this board because seeing your posts help so much and it is great when i feel i can offer advice too without it being frowned on.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

well done on lowering your overdraft and your shopping bills!:T I've saved pounds too by following the great advice here :j shame your OH isn't overly appreciative of what you've done!
Luckily mine is, he loves all the homecooked food and has taken great delight in growing his own veggies!
I just love it here!:TDo what you love :happyhear0 -
You go girl! Good on you! It's a shame that your OH can't be more supportive. I've also found lots of great advice on this site, but because I did have a serious debt problem, when I told my hubby what I was doing, he has been a great source of support.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

A year or so ago I started working full time and my cooking, organisation etc went right out the window. Gradually I got myself together, even starting to meal plan but I still seemed to spend half my free time in the supermarket and couldn't be bothered to actually cook what I'd bought. I've now started to meal plan for 3 weeks or so at a time and order the stuff I need for a Tesco delivery. It has worked so well, we are finally eating properly again and with very little effort. It took so long for the penny to drop I thought it might help someone else!0

Good for you. tesco still won't deliver in my area so I'm still not cutting back my food bill as much as I would like.0

Well done, i meal plan for two weeks at a time & it works for me too.0

I am just starting to plan a 2 week menu, cant think of enough meals for 3 weeks!:D the main problem I find is storage for the extra food as we have limited space but I hope to get around it somehow! I like the idea of less grocery shopping, less temptation to spend on unneccesary things!Do what you love :happyhear0

MSE lightbulb moments usually refer to sorting out finances but I wondered (again!) if anyone has had a similar experience with anything to do with OS?
Like cooking from scratch, food budgeting/meal-planning, going green with cleaning products, housework in general, etc etc ???
Or was it more of a gradual thing for you?You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

When i couldnt open a drawer full of paperwork, was my Lightbulb moment
I NEED TO GET MY LIFE SORTED
and i did
See my other post in the great clean up thready and you will see now i have an OCD about being organised...
Just realised that this was supposed to be OS, i do now do a lot of stuff from scratch because of my Life Laundy, i cook en mass for the week, and i dont use packets or jars everything is fresh, so i have the convenience of a ready meal, but with fresh produce.0 -
My light bulb moment came in Germany where I shopped at Lidls for the first time. I now shop there first and only use the main supermarkets as a top up. It's saved me LOTS of money." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
