on a bit of .a tangent, for anyone who is confused about the having to remove shoes in american airports, it goes back to the case of the shoe-bomber. i should imagine that you'd be fine if youre in flipflops or sandals etc (dont think they've invented explosive nail polish yet
),but anything that could conceal an explosive device can and probably will be checked.
i know it may seem like an invasion of privacy, but its in your best interests at the end of the day.

I know this has been touched on earlier but I make a list of passport numbers, insurance details, flight numbers booking references, and telephone numbers for your credit cards etc. I make sure these are mailed to nearest and dearest and myself just in case.
I also scan the back bit of our passports onto a single sheet of A4 and take this with us as a double precaution. I take out annual worlwide travel insurance, they always send you liitle cards with emergency numbers which I tape onto the inside of our suitcases.
Finally my wife has always rolled cloths up instead of folding after seing the tip on TV. You case is better packed with very little creased. If you do have shirts which are creased just hang them in the bathroom and turn the shower to hot. The steam works a treat. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I always put a piece of paper with my name and address and contact phone numbers INSIDE my suitcase so that it if it gets lost in transit hopefully someone will find it and reunite me with my luggage eventually.0

I've bumped this thread because it has lots of pages of packing tips and another thread was started recently by tightgit.........asking for packing tips.
Everyone going on trips or holiday can use packing tips. I wonder if it is worth making this thread sticky?10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -

The shoe thing could also be because many shoes use a steel shank to hold their shape / add comfort. Either they'll set the metal detectors to not scan at feet level (security risk), or they eliminate the problem by making the shoes go through scanner instead of metal detector0

keep your mozzy spray in your hand luggage, you usually need it at the airport especially if going on night flights. Also invest in the packing bags which you let the air out of! you can get them on the shopping channels or from argos. They enable you to get more in your suitcase and can help keep clothes crease free!0

I used to use ribbons etc to identify my case but everyone does that now. Last year purely by accident i was able to identify my cases as they were the ones with stickers stuck to them reading towels, quilts etc which i had forgot to take off after moving house ive decided to just keep them on, maybe you could do something similar? obviously dont just write towel, quilts or i will think they are my cases.0
