Installing new internal doors

Yeah Phill, thats what I thought!!
Any idea of a proper price? As I say, the doors will be in the frames (I know these'll have to be removed temporarily to fit the frame) complete with all the required BS hinges, handles and locks, intumescent strips etc etc

A lot of customers have already purchased the doors and have them at home. I do a supply and fit service for a fixed price per door (based on atandard doors and hardware) and prefer to do this as invariably the customer has got the wrong sizes (they measure 1 door and assume all the doors in their house are the same - but bedrooms, bathrooms and cupboards are often smaller than living rooms etc.). I take the doors off, but don't take the old ones away unless they are happy to pay a waste disposal fee - waste disposal is the achilles heel of small traders!
Hope this helps.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I'm the same as Phil, and because of regulation changes I try to never remove any rubbish now to the local tip as I received a formal warning last year for not having a waste carriers license when taking customers rubbish away. Pathetic! - but the fine isn't!
If I have to go and collect the doors from say Wickes on behalf of the customer I charge £15 for that, which is far cheaper than the diy stores charge you.

Hi
I have just had four internal doors fitted and was charged £25 each one. I thought this was a good price for hanging the doors, putting the handles and catches on etc.
I am really impressed by his work, cut just right, open easy etc and believe me I'm fussy.
The doors I have are supermodel valencia doors in oak, which they also do in walnut.
They are a beautiful door and retial at £280 up to £450 for each door but I have found somewhere that does returns and slight seconds, nothing wrong with mine and only cost £80 each.
Very happy with them.
Hope that helps, oh and I live in Bradford if that is why fitting a door is cheaper than down south.

When we had doors fitted the other week. I just got a jig saw across the old doors and cut them into two, thus fitted in car easily without having back end open to fit them in.0

Can I just remind people, as helpful as they are, this person is enquiring about FIRE DOORS. A whole kettle of fish different from fitting a standard internal door.

I am after some fire doors and frames to go with it.
4 fire doors and frames and 2 normal frames and doors.
How much would I be looking at up north Huddersfield to be precise to purchase all this and get them fitted???
Ideally does anyone know any cheap places around this area to buy them??

For fitting costs, read this thread properly it's already been answered.
For purchase costs, thats harder, I would try Magnets, as they will often give a trade discount to non trades people. You may be better off in this one instance to get a couple of chippies in to give you a "supply and fit" price - ie a price for everything included. After their trade discount, which most of us pass a percentage on to the end user, it may well work out cheaper then buying them your self. They will also then be able to ensure you get the correct hinges, stripping etc.

Can I make an important point here for anyone fitting fire doors in relation to either a commercial premise, or due to building regs.
You MUST have an automatic door closer fitted as well. This can be either a "Perko" chain type, set into the door, or a tradtional overhead door closer mounted on the face of the door.
Now these closers are classified by weight and size of door they will handle. Please DO NOT just go for the smallest cheapest nastiest closer. They will not last, they will eventually leak - and the oil really stains carpets, believe me! They will also probably not close the door properly.
You are also not permitted to use Rising Butt hinges to acheive the closure.
Last year I had the wonderful job (?) of changing 43 closers of the wrong grade fitted in an hotel after the fire inspector refused to allow them. They had only been installed (by another contractor) a matter of weeks after a refit!

Is it possible to buy fire treated wood from places like b and q to make your own fire door frames??? I am quite decent at DIY but not brilliant is this a job I could reasonably do or is it too hard???0
