Installing new internal doors

I am still rennovating my parents 1970s house. They have 13 old and bashed Saeple hollow core doors and I wanted to replace them with nice new doors with a nicer Thanks! Walnut finish. For complex reasons I won't go into here I have already had to paint all 13 frames (yes it did take up a large chunk of my life) but I wanted to know what cost people think is reasonable to hang a new 35mm thick door and put in a new handle. I know we'll need new hinges etc but was hoping they would fit in where the old hinges fitted.

Also..the doors we wanted were made by a company called Vicama - does anyone else know of any other hollow 35mm walnut finished doors?? Thanks!

I charge £35 per door but for this many I'd work out a quantum discount. That includes sizing, trimming, fitting latches, hinges and handles. I charge another £10 for an internal lock as these take longer. Anything more than that is excessive.

Phil, I gotta move to Essex;) I only charge £25 per door and people round here quibble at that!

Phil is right about the sort of prices you can expect to pay, unless they are a fancy solid hardwood door.

Rural West Wales. Far prettier then Essex;-)
For a one off door I would charge about the same. people dont realise the first one takes 3 times as long as any other. As you say by the time you've got thru the door, got your gear set up, discussed it with the cust, done the job, packed up and tidied up its half the day gone.

  • How much do you guys charge to fit a 30min firecheck door and frame set with or without door locks and handles supplied?

We have to fit 6 in one house into bare brick openings.

Not trying to pick your brains, just wondering if what we've been quoted is fair.

    Cheers!

There is a lot of work involved - setting the frames, sizing the door (remenber that if too much comes off the bottom, it has to be re-lipped in hardwood), setting intumescent hinges (3), setting in intumescent strips and closers. If all goes well, allow 3 doors in 2 days, or at worst, a day a door. allow 5 days so £750 - £900. What have you been quoted?

Wow, that seems a bit like rocket science. I just put up two doors, planed them fitted hinges latches and striking plate, job done.
