Getting paid to blog

Options
Hello All

Done lots of forum searching, but cant really get any hard and fast answers to my question. Can you earn extra money from blogging and if so how much ?

I dont currently have a website, or indeed a blog. But im sure that I could have one if it was going to be profitable.

Has anybody used of any of these companys (thanks to Geordie Joe for mentioning them by the way) If so, how much do you make ACTUALLY make from them. All of their websites promise big bucks, but is this really the case.

I dont think any of these are referall links, but admittedly, I did copy them out another post.

Yes you can make money from blogging, how much depends on what you do.

I have not tried any of the sites posted in here, but fully intend to once my blog qualifies.

Did you notice that digivate is the name of the user that writersshare payments now come from?

I would say digivate pays the least of all the sites. I think I worked it out that if you do the minimum 50 posts per month you get about 40p per post.

I suspect the others sites will depend on how many advertisers they have. The more advertisers they have the more money you could earn.

As I said, if you don't have a web site look into freehostia, but note that the user name you sign up with becomes your web site name, so think first.

If you want to go with another free space provider you need one that gives you at least one free mysql database. If they give you this they should have a facility to install wordpress, and some other blogs automatically.

After that it is just a case of playing with it to find out how it works. The wordpress web site is very good for help. And there are many free themes and plugins you can use.

Thanks for starting this thread ANDY. I am really interested in trying to make a living from a blog & or website and have what I think is an OK idea. I have absolutely NO clue as to where to start and how the money is generated other than the obvious that it comes from you having links to ther peoples sites on yours, for which they pay you a percentage for the space(??) and each time a punter is sent their way, via YOUR site..HAVE I GOT THIS RIGHT?? I will keep up with this site as I really need to do this now!

    cheers

    Hi Andy,
You can certainly make money from blogs. In fact some marketeers make 5 figure sums a month from doing so that I know. I suggest you join the free internet marketing forum http://www.warriorforum.com where some of the blogging 'big hitters' reside plus you'll find many articles on ways to make money from them.

Yep, you have the gist of it. But the sites Andy mentions in the first post will pay just for having the links in your posts.

  • okay, so i get the basic gist of this but:

    a) how do the companies you've linked know you've linked them? or is this like referral links you can just grab off sites, and then get your users to clickthrough? but do you only get paid if the person who has clicked through the link buys something, or just for the hit?
    b) bandwidth confuses me slightly, how much bandwidth would you require for a website getting four figure revenue?

I don't know, from the little I read about them you are "invited" to add a link and can accept or not. I suppose if you accept they check your site after a couple of days to see it's there.

In the case of digivate they send you a plugin to install in your blog that automatically adds the text links to some of your posts. They pay you a minimum of $40 per month, but you have to do at least 50 posts per month.

I think doing the minimum posts would be the most effective, as they pay a set amount each month. $40 for 50 - 100 posts per month and $55 for 101 to 250 posts per month. So you get paid the same for 50 posts as you would for 100 posts, similarly you'd get the same for making 101 posts as you would 250 posts.

    b) bandwidth confuses me slightly, how much bandwidth would you require for a website getting four figure revenue?

I don't know, never met anyone who makes that much. Met a few who claim to make that much, but it always turns out they are trying to sell me "their way of making it" for $27.

I'm sure you've seen the sites "I make $50,000 per day sitting on my backside doing nothing, give me $27 and I'll tell you how to do the same."

I don't care what anyone says, if I knew how to do it I wouldn't sell it for a gold brick!

Andy - glad to hear you've got a good idea for a blog/website. As far as making money from blogging goes - it's worth thinking about why you want to have a blog. One can put lots of effort into running a very good, 'successful' blog - with high traffic, media coverage etc. - and make a laughably small amount of money from it. I gather that more commercially-focused and advert-focused blogs can do a somewhat better job of making money...but, to state the obvious, it's worth emphasising that making a living from blogging is going to be anything but an easy option. You may also find that, if you are putting too much effort into generating revenue (lots of ads, paid posts, etc), this will detract from the quality of what you're writing; you may or may not be happy at this type of trade-off.

Can you say what kind of area of focus you had in mind? If it's linked to your website/business, one good way to approach it might be to look at the blog as good PR for the business and a way to improve your search rankings. Or, if it's linked to an interest of yours, it would be well worth trying blogging for a month or two to get a better sense of how things work... You could look to generate revenue from the blog at a later date...
  • cheers for the info joe! surely a more effective way of making money would be by doing a popular blog, and just having ads that would amount to more than $40, or whatever you're saying, or i guess; you could do both!

There's nothing to stop you doing both, as far as I know. If you are going to write posts to put the adverts in, then why not try the other too. Not sure if Digivate will work with they other sites, but you could try.
