    Right here goes,

passenger side (one with all the hassle) is reading 1.542 and driver side is measuring 1.540. He has checked the ring thing and it is fine, no cracks etc but it is dirty and rusty... How do the readings sound?

Thanks for all your help with getting us so far.

The ABS light, somehow, should go a bit later than the other ones. Does it go immediatelt sharpish with the Oil warning light and the rest? or does it go fractionally after the other ones? Check this with great attention please.

Just checked and it goes out just slightly after the other lights.

It looks the sensors are spot on and nothing wrong with them.
The abs rings you say are fine. So far so good.

What about the timing of the ABS light going on the dash? Check it with great attention as to when it switches off. ( It should be the last one to go, not always though, but definitely not the first one!)

If the Abs is the first one to go when you start the engine, then there is a great possiblity it is wired to an adjucent light bulb on the dash to give a false sense of being ok and the next step will be the following:

Check the wiring to the box underneath the passenger seat.
The sensors are connected to the 35 pin plug as follows:

    Front Left: 4-6
    Front Right: 11-21
    Rear Left: 8-9
    Rear Right: 24-26

Sensor resistance there should be between 500-2000 ohms
Pins 1 to 18 are in the upper row, pin 1 at left facing (female cable) connector
Pins 20-35 (less pins than above) are in the lower row.

    1.....18
    20...35

I will go and have my tea now

Please see the above bit about the rust on the ring thing. Is that OK. Don't let me disturb your tea though! ;)

I must admit I didn't notice the rusty and dirty rings bit!:o

Try to get clean them and inspect them again for a crack, but, do not file them!

After cleaning them, take the car in a quick spin and see if it happens after 30mph.

Check the rear sensors later. Did you carefully checked when the abs light switches off in the way I asked about in post #77?

I am sorry I missed that one as well! :o I think this is happening because we are posting very soon after each other!

So, The good news is your ABS light looks fine ( legitimate ) which is good.
There is no need to check the wiring to underneath the passenger seat as the light and the front sensors are ok.

Let us see how the brakes will be after cleaning the ABS rings.

I really hope this problem end successfully cured!

Weird how the problem is only between 30 and 40 miles an hour now isn't it! Does that indicate anything?

This might indicate a cracked ABS ring! You said they seem not cracked but rusty and dirty. Let us wait and see what cleaning them might reveal! Don't forget to clean the sensors faces once again ( I know you did, hence improvement)

OK looks like this isn't going to happen today, have cajoled him into taking the wheel off again but no joy. So may be a little wait again. I am raring to go and get this sorted. I will see if I can get anyone else to give me a hand.

Thanks again and await the next installment.

    Cheers.
