The sensors are connected to the 35 pin plug as follows:
Front Left: 4-6
Front Right: 11-21
Rear Left: 8-9
Rear Right: 24-26
Sensor resistance there should be between 500-2000 ohms
Pins 1 to 18 are in the upper row,
pin 1 at left facing (female cable) connector
Pins 20-35 (less pins than above) are in the lower row.
1.....18
20...35
Hope this weekend is the end for this dilemma!
PS Sorry for replying late. We had some friends over!
Only just found this reply! And I am subscribed to the thread but didn't get a notification.
I just came back to the thread to give everyone a huge thank you for trying to help us out and putting in so much effort.
I am still driving around with the abs (on the rear) unplugged just to stop it doing it. Not ideal I am sure but a short term plan non the less.
Now as well as saying thanks I will print out this and get my long suffering OH to go through this little lot.
Will get back!0 -
It's worse for handling if the car's rear wheels lock so probably best to get it investigated. At least you know where the problem appears to be now.0

I think we have found the problem.............0

I have to make a bit of a drama!
Well, OH had done all of the checks as said. No other changes.
Then he decided to go around and recheck everything. He got to the sensor ring on drivers side again and ran his fingers over it and it opened up! He said you can't see a thing on it and didn't even see it when he cleaned it. It springs back into position and you can't see it again.
So we are going to get a new one and fingers crossed that will be it!
Please remember non of this would have been possible without you fantastic lot. Big big thanks especially to Thunderbird. You stuck with me throughout. :T
I will report back in again when the new one is on.
:j0 -
Hooray!!!!!!!
That bloody ring!!! I was getting to a stage to start feel embaressed because I couldn't work out what was wrong and started to feel a bit guilty as I did not know what was next if nothing is found with the ABS system even though most things were suggesting an ABS problem!
Anyway, I am glad we ( all of us ) have got to the cause and this wouldn't have happened without the help of others and the efforts of your husband and your percise description of the problem.
I am happy now :j
Let us know when you replace the ring.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

You had no need to start to feel embarrassed, you stuck your neck out and helped us out so much, can you imagine how much more money we would have wasted before probably selling on this car for a loss still not sorted out, I dread to think!
I didn't feel that I was giving a very precise description! I changed what I wrote so many times cos it sounded like total rubbish!
Still we are not out of the woods yet. We need to get the new one put in. So will report in as soon as it is done.0 -
the pedal would go down but get slightly stuck half way down then I would have to press it harder to go the rest of the wayIf I am using my ipod plugged into the cig lighter and tuned into the radio I can hear it crackling slightly at the same time as it does the humming noise. The ipod thing is crackling like electrical interferenceIt will do it for about 4/5 seconds and repeats it about 5 times then doesn't do it for about 100 yards or so then starts up
It feels like it does when you are using a handdrill to drill through soft metal in that you press it down, it goes through with resistance then goes through quickly as it comes through the other side.It doesn't do the noise or hard spot when I start the car after it has been standing overnight for instance. It will take about quarter of a mile before it starts then it carries on for the rest of that journey.we are still getting the humming but only between the speeds of 30 and 40 miles an hour. Drop below 30 it stops go above and it starts again. Above 40 it stops again
Without these descriptions, it wouldn't have been easy to find the direction to where the problem is, especially the drilling bit ( A sensor not happy) and the 30-40 mph thing ( a cracked ABS ring )
But bear in mind that after fixing this fault, you need to keep an eye on the pads on the front passenger side just in case of they are still wearing out, say during the annual service, just in case the flexible pipes are collapsing as it was pointed out by in2deep and goldspanner ( 2 issues causing 2 faults) in earlier posts.
 for getting to the end!
P.S I can't wait for the confirmation of the problem is gone. When are you going to get the ABS ring replaced?!Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Ha, I actually laughed after seeing all of those little quotes, I wouldn't have yesterday though!
OH is going to be working and we want it done this week if poss so we would like to find a garage we can trust and that wont rip us off in the Milton Keynes area. They must be around just need to find them.0 -
Have you checked the rear pads?
Only joking, glad to hear you're nearly at the end of this saga. Well done for persevering, others would have given up long ago.0
