Smelly Plughole - Ideas needed!

Hi everyone, I think you lot will be the font of all knowledge on this little cleaning problem I have.
I have a smelly plughole in my bathroom sink. When I run water down it the air that comes back up is really smelly and stinks the room out. I have tried boiling water and soda crystals which has helped a little but the smell comes back after a short while. The water is draining freely so the pipe isn't blocked, just smelly. What is the best way to get rid of it?
I would be very grateful for your help on this one!

I presume you've tried a good thick bleach... I would shove it down the plug hole and leave over night. HTH.0

Try half a cup of bicarb of soda followed by 1 cup of vinegar- they will fizzzzz and the smell will be gone.0

Give it a good plunge to move the sludge, you should see muck coming back into the sink, then give a squirt of bleach or anything you have to hand and rinse the sink. Usually sorts it with minimal chemicals and a bit of elbow grease!
Dont forget to block the plug hole really well and fill the sink partly with water when plunging!0 -
