A good thing to do now and then is to use a plunger to dislodge any decayed matter at the bottom of the drain, which is what causes the bad smell. Then run water for a short while and pour down some deodorising stuff, such as a bit of bleach or vinegar.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Hi - I'm really hoping you guys will be able to help.

We moved house in December last year and it turned out that they family who lived here previously were a right mucky bunch. But we scrubbed and scraped and polished and it's fine now, all bar the kitchen 'half' sink. I think they last people used it to tip stuff down but never bothered running fresh water down it, heaven forbid actually cleaning it - at least that's how it smells.

    So far I've tried:
    • soda crystals and boiling water
    • soda crystals, white vinegar and boiling water
    • Zoflora
    • Bleach
I've tried all these things many times but the plughole still smells baaaaaaad. It's not blocked at all and runs very well, it just stinks :(

    Any suggestions? Please?

    Hi curv,

I usually find some bicarb and vinegar does the trick. It fizzes like mad and seems to clear the smell.

There's an earlier thread on smelly plugholes that should help so I'll add your question to it to keep the replies together.

This thread might help too: Sink & Plughole Unblocker OS Style
