I managed to book a return from Sheffield to Abergavenny (around 9pm last night) saved me £31.50 but it took ages as the website was so clunky in fact for some reason it worked better on my Opera browser rather than IE which kept trying to charge me the full price..go figure
thanks to original poster great money saver0 -

I had to call them, hold the line for 35 minutes on an o870 (saynoto0870 didn't have an alternative), only to be told to phone another number.
That's appalling. I hope you have an itemised phone bill, which you can send them. Even if you don't, or can't wait, write to them. You may have to persist. I lost the return half of a "Twosome" ticket from London to Nottingham (too eager to get rid of my rubbish to the eager person coming down the train with a bin bag!) and had to pay £96 for two singles to return - on a fare that had cost me £18 (Twosome = two return for £36). I made sure I was on the same train and seat stipulated by the Twosome, and got the train manager to initial the tickets to that effect. Initially Midland Mainline's front-line drone just quoted regulations at me and refused any refund. I wrote back, and once I'd broken through the defences and got to someone with a brain, who realised that paying £96 for an £18 fare because I lost a piece of paper (of which they had records on their computer) was a little unfair, they refunded me the lot (although I'd have happily paid an admin fee).Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
I was doing this last nite at 11:50pm. Posted in old thread.
I Could NOT taken advantage of the offer cos I only have a solo card.

Wanted to visit my sister in exmouth on a cheap week away in exmouth?
Why is solo cards so badly supported. I can't get any other card cos of credit rating. I am only on JSA.
hope this works - http://www.flickr.com/photos/croftyboy/39359595/

Perhaps there is more fraud with Solo than other cards? Perhaps Solo charges more to the merchants?Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I initially had trouble buying the Scotrail tickets and emailed the person mentioned in the first post to say so. I did manage to make the booking in the end (thanks to the OP), but got the following email this afternoon from Scotrail:
"Dear XXX,
I hope since my last email you were able to book the FirstScotRail ticket and recieved a 50% discount.
If you continued to experience a problem and have not been able to make a booking, then please call our dedicated Support Team on 01925 671 729, before 10pm Sunday (4th Sept). The lines are open from 8am to 10pm."
Hope this helps someone0 -

Hi All,
I emailed Scotrail's customer relations on the 1st September that I have problems booking the tickets online. I didnt hear from them until the next day and here is the reply:
Unfortunately, a technical problem with the FirstScotRail promotion meant you were not offered the 50% discount when booking a journey.
If you still want to take advantage of this offer, then please call our dedicated Support Team on 01925 671 729, before 10pm Sunday (4th Sept), and they will make the booking for you. The lines are open from 8am to 10pm.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
I called the number immediately and managed to get myself 10 return tickets! :rotfl: Well...it took me 20 mins explaining to the lady, and another 20 mins to finally get the tickets booked, but hey at least there is savings and the number provided is a national number! So for those who still want to take advantage of the offer, act now!!
GOOD LUCK!0 -
Well, I dont know where to start!! We booked our half price tickets through Scotrail and paid for them. When we reached the train station today, however, the attendant said that his paperwork said we had to pay full price for our tickets and that they had not been paid online. He said that this was an ongoing problem with internet bookings and he was fed up with it. We phoned the helpline and they said our tickets were paid for and could they speak to the attendant. He refused because he was too busy and was really very rude towards us. Because the train was ready to take off, we had to pay for the tickets again only at full price which meant we paid £22.20 originally and then another £34.20 today (kids go free on weekends). We were absolutely furious by then but could do nothing until we came home. Then we phoned the helpline only to be given 4 different numbers (explaining the story to each person in turn!) before eventually being told to write and ask for a refund which will only be granted if Scotrail decide we have a valid claim! What a disaster and it totally spoiled our day.0
