sawanderer wrote:Okay - this offer expires on 1st September, and you can save 50% on booking tickets up to three months in the future
HOWEVER... you can arrange to travel after this three month period, i.e. for Christmas... but it gets a little tricky. Here's how:
1. Book a ticket for the latest day that the system will allow... N.B. The only options will be Saver Returns and Open Returns this far ahead. If you are certain that you could get an Apex fare for cheaper later on, then this option may not be for you. Savers and Open returns do, however, give a lot more flexibility of travel times than Apex fares.
2. Wait for your tickets to arrive in the post.
3. Close to the date of travel booked on the tickets, pop in to your local railway station and ask to change the date of travel on your tickets. This is allowed in the T&C's for the Saver Return and the Open Returns.
4. You may be charged a £5 or £10 admin fee for making this change, but you are still likely to be saving more than buying a full price ticket at Christmas time.
5. Smile as you walk out of the station with your new tickets and seat reservations, as you have just saved yourself a packet by thinking ahead!
Ticket terms and conditions can be found here if you need more assurance...

But the half price offer won't be there either, will it? I imagine it expires this midnight, not the next one.
spaggy: are you sure your journeys cost >£40? If not, add some more tickets and you'll see the discount appear as it crosses that threshold.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
The offer has now ended: it complains that the promotion code is invalid. Booked a weekend for two from London to Edinburgh for £39.50 with two minutes to spare!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Looks like it actually ends on 31 August? Pity, because it's a great offer and I missed it by about 45 minutes."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

Yeah I got caught out too.... thought it ended tomorrow....
I should have booked much sooner today....0 -
I can't believe it! I missed it. I thought it was ending today to. I'd spent all day yesterday trying to source Arsenal tickets at Middlesbrough next weekend. Someone emailed me at work to offer me one after I'd left so didn't get the email until just now. Pity!
Good post anyway.0 -

Thats a shame as original post says
Quote "Limited offer - all rail tickets must be purchased through the promotional web link between 25th August and midnight on 1st September 2005. Usual rail ticket terms and conditions apply to promotional tickets purchased. Tickets can currently be booked for travel up until the end of November 2005. (Edited comment: See post below on how to extend this deadline past Christmas click here ...)"
Clearly says midnight 1st September but promotional code not going through today maybe they pulled it early?0 -
I think it's really cheeky of ScotRail too!
When the offer stated to book by 1st September, what they really seem to mean was that the offer closes as the clock ticks over to 1st September (can ScotRail possibly be counting this as midnight?) - making the last chance for booking on 31st August.
Maybe it's the power of the MSE boards again... ScotRail may have decided to close the offer at their earliest convenience to save them from bankruptcy, without causing a pulic outcry of "unfair."
I've learnt a lesson here too! Use an offer as soon as you see it... oh well, it was good while it lasted. Really sorry if you missed out this time.0 -
All may not be lost!
I have just phoned ScotRail and they say they are having trouble with the website.
They have passed on the email of the person who is responsible for promotional bookings.
If you are having problems with the promotional code on the website please email Mark.Furlong@thetrainline.com
I have now emailed him & will let you know what I hear back. I recommend you do the same - put on a bit of MSE pressure!
