It would make my day if RBS went into serious trouble.
    Unfortunately, I'm not that lucky.

    In English please?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

It's quite widely known on here I hate RBS with a passion because of the trouble they've caused me and my business.
I currently have a solicitor wiping the floor with them on my behalf.

    Sorry, medication wore off early!

Come on, you're all smart people, you know about the £35k guarantee on all saving schemes, why fall for this rubbish again? Withdrawing your savings (the bedrock of almost any bank) is the best thing you could do if you wanted the bank to collapse!

I agree except to say that the FSA guarantee only applies if they have enough money available to cover it themselves.

Do you realise just how big the RBS group is? I take it you dont. Its in no trouble whats so ever.
I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. See you local branch for advice, but any questions feel free to ask me.

No, it doesn't, because the FSCS can levy other financial institutions to cover the cost. Check the FSCS website: http://www.fscs.org.uk/industry/funding/levy_information/

Also, to corroborate what someone said above, RBS are the second biggest bank in the UK, after HSBC, and the fifth biggest in the world. Just to make it perfectly clear, that is huge; distressingly, universe-endingly huge; RBS are fine right now. Everyone taking all their money out might make it turn for the worse.

Sorry, ShelfStacker, but what you say above is somewhat contradictory.

The FSCS website only talks about levies on financial institutions up to the annual limit of £4B. For costs above that, they have to put the matter in the hands of the Treasury/BoE/FSA.
Although I would be amazed if RBS was ever to get into such trouble that it had to default on deposits, the level of such deposits are way above that figure of £4B, so any default by RBS (in one of their major banking arms) would mean it would exceed the FSCS's capacity to deal with it.
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

Yes I DO know how big the RBS group is - but it doesn't mean I can't help but feel a little bit happy that they're having negative press at the moment.
