Dishwasher Hell

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the the correct place to post this but thought I would anyway.

We have been moved into our new Rented Accomadation for coming up to 2 months now and ever since day one, the Dishwasher has not worked.

Now we were given the Manufacturers Number who said they would pass details on and sort it, however they forgot and we then phoned again and they passed details through and eventually we had engineer say they would come Today.

However, he rang yesterday and said he would be there this Afternoon, and i said thats no good as not home from work till gone 4, so he said it will have to be another day, which we couldn't arrange till the 26th April.

Now, I understand appointment has been arrange because we are at work, but the manufacturers messed up in the 1st Place by not assigning the call to engineer and we were off work then for over a week, so could have got it sorted any day.

My point is, 2 months not working is a third of our tenancy as only on 6 month Contract.

We have paid the rent fully upfront with no discount, so am i in a position to be offered compensation for this and who do I ask.

I mean we didn't buy the Dishwasher, so cant claim off them, the Builders installed and never checked it, but not sure if we claim through them, but if we do, then should be the agents who do this on our behalf, and lastly claim from the agent, as they have taken our money and not provided something we paid for for a third of our contract

Any Help?

    Hell??

You need to get some perspective. Anyway, your claim would be against your landlord, but I wouldn't expect any significant amount back, seems like you left things in limbo to some degree.

I'd not expect compensation for this because if you owned the dishwasher you'd be having the same problems. And a dishwasher is a luxury item, not essential like water, electricity or an oven.
  • Well, we left it at 1st, as we told the Agents about it when we 1st Moved in and nothing was done.

Then we were given a Number to call by the Builder on site building the apartments which was the Manufacturers and we phoned them and they never passed details onto Engineer, we rang them and they said they would do it again but never did.

We phoned the Agents and they said they would sort it but never called back, so we rang them ourselves and got an Appointment arrange for 2 weeks time as they were busy which was Today, but we can attend as they cant do after 4.

As to whats wrong with it, it switches on and then makes a noise and does nothing, i think it could be something simple like, the tap at back not switched on, or the pipe bolts not taken off, however its built in and I am not wrenching it out in case i damage something and then will be really in the mess.

And as for Luxury Item, I get what you mean, but when you pay 650 a month, you expect to get these things as if didn't have these kind of items, I would not be paying this much a month.

And as for lingering around a bit, i have been as in, we had just moved in and have been traveling all over the place for furniture and moving etc, so been quite busy

I am not looking for hundreds back, even 50 quid would be fine, more the fact of them admitting they are wrong and they will sort it, as our next appointment is for the 26th which is gonna be another week now

I mean if Landlord is to blame, then we go through the agents anyway as we don't deal directly with them

I mean I am just seeing where I stand at the moment, as Agents Excuse every time we phone about things, is, its a new Apartment, little problems always happens, and I am at the point of hiring a Gun, going round and shooting the Woman, and then saying, its a new Gun, Little problems always happens :)

    Cheers for advice and help

"hell" does seem an especially strong word - just because you have to do your own washing up .......... lets have a bit of perspective here ?

Compensation for what losses? Washing dishes takes comparable time to loading/unloading a dishwasher and washing by hand is slightly cheaper. I think small claims woul laugh you out.
  • OP. Simply read some of the posts on here about people facing reposession and financial ruin. Look in the newspaper and read about hunger and poverty both here and abroad. See how people are dying in their thousands through war and terror attacks. And then go and do your own sawding dishes whilst realising how bluddy lucky you really are... In the words of the Mr Royle, compensation my ar...!!!
  • Right, seems I have come to the wrong place, I post a simple thing asking for advice of where the blame lies.

Just because there are people out there facing repossession and debts, does not mean I do not have a right to complain as i have forked out a hefty sum of cash for things like this regardless that i could wash them in the sink. i could do that in a different flat and pay less money for the place without a dishwasher.

And for you Info, I am in a IVA, so I know about hardships of debt, but when someone is messing you about like this, if you prefer to sit back and say, well, its only a dishwasher and there is poverty in the world, then you must get a lot of cr*p thrown at you and do nothing about it.

All,i wanted to really know was who I held Accountable, and main thing is for them to show a bit of good will and at least apologise for taking my cash and saying we will provide you with this and that and then not coming through on promises, however little, and when something goes wrong, which i know can happen, they don't even make a real effort to sort it out

You're a grown up. Using common sense you will be able to get it sorted without involving the landlord or their Letting Agent to any great degree. You have the manufacturer's number, you could have chased it up sooner, it's unfortunate that you have to be at work when the engineer wants to come.

You can sort it out. I would put the responsibility with you because I would take responsibility myself.

It is a new build, you get snagging issues. It really isn't a big deal.

I moved into my house and my brand new oven made a terrible noise. I called the manufacturer, they did pass on my details to the engineer who came out the next day because I was home. He had to order a part, he came back a week later and fitted it.

He would call me when he was about an hour away to make sure I was in. If you don't work too far from home, perhaps you could ask your engineer to do the same, so that you would be able to pop home from work rather than wait in all day.

These things happen. The more of an effort you make to get it sorted, the quicker it will be sorted.

    But do complain, do !
But don't make this story sounds like a drama (it does, that how we read it)
    You want tips?
Well nothing you did work so far so just go to the agent and start getting angry - usually works a treat

by the way, are you really sure you could get a similar flat for cheaper if it didn't have the dishwasher?? Did you make some research on this? Did you compare prices ?
If this is the case then when you go to the Agency to do a little bit of shouting you might as well show them the results (other flats are cheaper)
