I got one from ASDA for £25 and it's worked perfectly fine for us. It definitely cleans well, even when I've thought the floor is clean! :o

This is it but it's £35 on amazon

Thank you for posting the link to that thread Seakay - I was sure I had seen one before, but the search didn't pull it up for me..
I will check out the posts, and also your recommendation Sequeena!

I've got an Earlex complete steamer cleaner. It contains bits for cleaning floors, cookers, windows and a wallpaper plate. I paid less than £30 for it about 4 years ago. Argos have got them for £39 at the moment.

I had this one but it's gone back to Asda for a refund today. I got it at the end of September so it was well within its warranty luckily. Last time I used it it was dripping a lot but this morning I couldn't get any steam at all. The machine was hot but the water wasn't, all I got was a flooded floor. All the cold water just came out the bottom, no steam at all  I'd only used it a couple of dozen times, once a week since purchase except when I was on holiday.

I got my cash back and will save up for a decent one instead.

after a previous rubbish experience with a cheapo steam cleaner (it's further up on this thread) 4 weeks ago I bought a vax hard floor steam cleaner (eldest cat had started having accidents in the house and mopping really didn't feel hygenic!, plus I hate mopping).

this has been great - completely different to my experience with the hand-held nozzle-type one. It cleans my victorian floor (which before was a scrubbing brush on knees job), tiled bathroom floor, wood floor in the lounge and laminate in the kids room really well. It feels like less effort than getting the mop and bucket out and definitely dries quicker.

I've only got 4 cloths for it though so can't do the whole house at once (otherwise I'd feel like with the mop I was just dragging dirt around) but that suits me fine as I tend to do housework little and often. At first I wasn't convinced it was removing as much dirt as the mop - as the cloths didn't seem to be anywhere near as dirty as the mop-water seemed to be, but I've scrubbed a spot with a damp white cloth afterwards and it was very clean - so must be removing the dirt (or it's not getting as filthy because I don't mind using the steam mop as much as the normal one so do it more often!).

    down sides (for me)
can't do the stairs (doesn't fit)
doesn't really get to the edges (which in my kitchen is where the worst grime is)
removes grease better than the old mop but still have to get the scrubbing brush out to actually get it properly off.

I got mine from amazon warehouse, a used briefly but returned one, which was loads cheaper than amazon proper - think it was £39? - well worth it.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

That's a shame! Thankfully mine has been fine so far.

  • anyone use their steam cleaner on quartz floor tiles (you know, the glittery ones) I've got these in my dining room/kitchen and currently have to clean/buff them by hand as everything else leaves a film.
    Bit of a nightmare.

I purchased a Vax S2S, which seemed good from the adverts and I had a bit of spare money.
Fixing it together was okay, operation was okay but the results were just as good as a mop and bucket. The difference would have been the floor was near on instantly dry. But then with the new "Whizz Mop" from JML or Vielida's version, sopping wet mops should be a thing of the past.

The floor looked clean yes but no way was it worth the £60 I paid so sent it back for a refund.
If I saw one for £20-£30 then yes, maybe but at the moment, no - sorry.
