Steam Cleaner - is it worth getting one?

I have a Polti which sits in the cupboard most of the time. However when I do get it out I go mad and clean tiled floors and walls, carpets, bins, defrost the freezer and use the ironing attachment. When I put it away I promise myself I will use it again soon! I suppose the answer is to be more organised. However I did use it to clean the outside of a dishwasher once and ruined the controls, so that wasn't very moneysaving. If this one broke I wouldn't buy another. My secret fantasy is having 2 men....

I've just brought this £19.99 one from Lidl last night. RRP £49.99. Going to start on the filthy bathroom while the small boy is at school. It was a bit of an impulse purchase so I hope it works ok.
Edited to add:
Well having used it this morning, I am not impressed and will be taking it back. A tiny bit on the main nozzle broke off and it won't stay on now. And before that I don't think it was powerful enough to clean anyway. Grrrrr.0 -
OK, I am considering getting a Polti for Christmas (may as well get something useful) I have spent all day getting really excited about steam cleaners, reading tons of reviews and forum posts...
however, how many of you bought one and now never use it? I don't mind paying £80 for something I will use weekly (especially like the idae of cleaning mattresses as DS suffers allergies).
Any feedback anyone?
I bought a Polti a year ago - can't remember the model but it came with iron attachment.
We moved into a house with cream wool carpets that were in absolutely excellent condition and having a dog and an 11 year old grandson the best way to keep them clean is to steam clean them. It is amazing how grubby they get even taking shoes off at the door and drying the dog off in the utility room. In our old house we had hard floors down stairs - it's been years since we had carpets.
I use it about once every 2 to 3 weeks in the hall and the living room and the carpets are fine.
I use it for the kitchen floor, the toilets (not all the time), the ironing (amazing), I give our curtains a blast every now and again - it has turned out to be one the most used "gadgets" I have ever bought.
If it packed up tomorrow I would invest in a new one.
I wouldn't have thought it was designed to actually clean dirty carpets but it's great for keeping clean carpets from getting dirty.0 -
i think getting steam cleaner is worthy
because I've got hired a good steam cleaner with pretty good outcomes. :A

I have a polti and use it all the time. Also twice a year for matresses and cat beds. Athough I launder the cat beds I feel they need a blast now & then. I only have carpet on the stairs - cream !- Worth it for that alone. Dry in 10 minutes. I would buy another no hesitation.0

I keep seeing these advertised as great for cleaning floors, tiles, grout etc. Can anyone tell me if they are really any good?0

Yes I have one, bought it for business (carpet cleaning) to remove chewing gum.
Very useful for cleaning accumulated gunk off cooker and lino type flooring in kitchen.0 -
I have one but have yet to use it but probably will quite soon especially on the cooker."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
