I use mine for everything, windows included (saves a fortune on window cleaners). The whole of my downstairs is laminate or tile and I have used one for the past 3yrs on the laminate and it is still alive!
I think if you mop it would get the laminate wetter (prob more damage) than if you use a steamer plus with attachments you can get into the grooves and corners.
I bought one after borrowing my friends and she swears by polti the big red one as she had some cheaper versions that were not up to the task. I think it depends on how much you use it.
I rent my house out and the last tenants were filthy so when they moved out I had my friends and my polti both going so while one was cooling down the other was ready for action. The nicotine that ran off the windows was disgusting and I think they only lived on chips and the kitchen was thick with grease, I would still be cleaning now if I did not have one.
I would say it is probably one of the gadgets I would pay more for and could not do with out.
A word of warning.....if there is any men/boys in the house put a peg on your nose before you steam it (4 males in my house) as it is amazing where bleach does not reach.:eek:0 -
I've read through every "steam cleaning/laminate" thread on MSE, so I'm none the wiser really. I'll test with my Karcher SC1020 this weekend and report back.
A friend of mine reckons steam cleaners dislodge the glue from carpets/laminate and shrink carpets, though I'm tempted to think it's more the material of your carpet you have to consider, eg, wool.
I've seen steam mops advertised and they've done all sorts of surfaces in demos, so, confused..
PS: As for mopping laminate, I wring it out as much as I can, then mop. Then a swiffer once it's dry.0 -
Anyone have any experience of the Polti L'ecoaspira Intelligent?
It's rather expensive but I like the idea of the vacuum sucking up the dirt and water as it steams... so just wondering if anyone has any experience of whether it's worth the extra money in terms of effectiveness and ease of use/speed?If you feel my comments are helpful then I'd love it if you 'Thanked' me!0 -
I did a lot of review reading after I bought the Karcher and some raved about the wet vacuum/steam option. Not sure if it was on here? What I read of it was very favourable, anyway.
Great idea but too pricey for me!0 -
Just found this about Polti so it's rather put me off now!

Page 7 & 8 on this thread talks about the Polti vacuum/steam cleaner, though not the Intelligent model.
Another one: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/9950063#Comment_9950063 (a few years old, though).
Edit: Another: http://www.reevoo.com/p/polti-vaporetto-lecoaspira-intelligent
Not the Intelligent but may be worth a read:

As I said my friend usually buys all the latest gadgets (has loads of money) she went through a few different steamers and swears only by the polti the red one. She has used hers for years and never had a problem with anything. I have had mine a few years and never had a problem.
I think it is a little like cars the more complicated they are the more there is to go wrong.
Talking about the funny smell.............. I forgot all about that lol when I got mine I thought it smelt funny but I think it is the lack of smell that seems strange because your not using loads of cleaning products:T0
