Thanks for the advice, I will most likely buy a 2200, but I think I'm going to hold out a few more days for a better offer, this one doesn't have the "no-brainer" feel about it other recent Dell offers have.

    Cheers,

I'm not sure if i'm missing something here but when I go on the inspiron 2200 its shows up as having a 1.4ghz celeron which is the same that is in the 1200 that i ordered at the weekend for £349. The only difference I can see is that the 2200 has wireless built in, I managed to by a wireless card for mine for £24.99. Is there another difference or is the 1200 the same apart from the wireless. In which case it would be cheaper to buy the 1200 and a wireless card.

Battery life on the 1200 is quoted at 2.5hours, where as it's 5 hours on the 2200. There's no way that 2.5 hours is adequate for school so I decided against the 1200.

Mind you, for that price I was tempted.

There is no free delivery so once you add the vat and delivery you are up at £409. You would be crazy to buy this when you can get the Dimension 5100 deal with a 17"TFT monitor for £407 delivered.

It is always best to try and post the offers with vat included

Can you advise of the Code to input to get the Dimension 5100 for £407?

    thanks

Sorry... 10mins was an exaggeration.... didnt mean it to sound a serious comment to some MSE'ers.
But once you are used to a P4, a 1.4 did very much get on my nerves.. (personal opinion - just for clarity)
    Be nice

If this isn't such a great deal, can anyone advise on a better current budget laptop deal?

    Thanks

That misprice has been rectified now, but for the next best deal just look in this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=87196
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Apologies if this is taking a bit of a tangent but...

I was going to buy one of the previous Inspiron1200 bargain laptops (offer just finished) but was put off by low battery life.

I have an 11 year old disabled son who is statemented to require "access to a computer to replace handwriting wherever possible". However the school say they don't have any available machines.

While I am appealing to the LEA about the special needs funding I still need a laptop for him that will have at least 4 hours battery life.

I'm surprised the school hasn't got a spare old laptop lying around, my school has a dozen or more which aren't used much but if your son's statement says he needs a laptop then I think the council have to supply one. He probably needs an ICT assessment which school could probably organise then he'll get a machine suited to his needs - at least that's how it works in our authority. Contact the parent officer at your council or a local councellor or your local MP and complain!

I'm surprised about this too, the difficulty is with the ambiguous wording of hist statement "Wherever possible". He doesn't need any special king of computer; his disabilities are autistic & fine motor skill related. He can use a standard computer with relative ease.
but if your son's statement says he needs a laptop then I think the council have to supply one.
Council say it's within the School's special needs budget to supply this, the school says it only has very limited special need funding as school entry is academic based, my son is academically gifted and has won a place at a selective grammar school. It will all get resolved I'm sure, but school term starts on Monday and we have no laptop.

We have been complaining, but in a civilized way as in every other aspect the school has been fantastic, organising an LSA and seeking our approval of them, training all staff that will be teaching him etc. & more.

They are good guys really, we just need this sorted.
