  • You can back up your original drivers using Driver Genius

    http://www.driver-soft.com/

or (as previously stated) use the Dell website downloads which is a little more complicated and time consuming.

    .co.uk - don't know if there's any difference.

It's not time consuming or difficult on the Dell site - just reinstalled on my Desktop.

The drivers are downloadable via the Dell support site by using your Service Tag that came with your laptop.

Partition the hard drive with XP BOOT DISKS downloadable via the Microsoft website... it's an executable download - you then run it and the boot disks will be made with your assistance... you need 6 diskettes. (lol, that's all dependant on weather you have a floppy drive of course. I have an external one that I use with all my machines. I can't live without it). If you do that, don't forget to change to boot order in BIOS so the floppy boots first.

Or, if you have a copy of Win 95/98/Me you could partition the hard drive that way with FAT32 as if you were reinstalling them over XP from scratch - you'd have no option but to reformat the HD, then don't go through with the installation and start over with NTFS. This has worked for me in the past without a floppy drive.

Try this if you have a FAT32 OS around or you could use a mate's.
