There is no free delivery so once you add the vat and delivery you are up at £409. You would be crazy to buy this when you can get the Dimension 5100 deal with a 17"TFT monitor for £407 delivered.

It is always best to try and post the offers with vat included

Unless of course you actually NEEDED a laptop?

Might not be 'impulse buy' cheap, but still better to buy this one than going down to your local PC World or whereever and getting mugged.

have to disagree... if you want a laptop, £407 on a desktop is surely money down the drain.

    In fairness to iwantitnow..
it is annoying when people fail to give the true value to their bargains.

And yes, if you need a laptop, get one. But they were cheaper recently.

But if I HAD to get a laptop.. i would seriously consider it false economy to get a 1.4 centrino. You will spend 10minutes booting it up once you have a few things on it. :(
    Be nice

I was actually having a go at the poster for hitting us with the under £300 title crap (which redfox has now amended) when in fact it costs £408.90.

I added the bit about the Dimension 5100 to show what a real bargain is.

Basic starter laptops are ten a penny at round this price, so I couldn't quite catch where the offer was.

Got to agree u can find plenty of simillar spec laptop for £400 price range.

For a bargain i,m looking for a £300 laptop .If dell can do a £407 pc with tft ( bought one) i cant see why they cant do a £300 laptop.

Apologies if this is taking a bit of a tangent but...

I was going to buy one of the previous Inspiron1200 bargain laptops (offer just finished) but was put off by low battery life.

I have an 11 year old disabled son who is statemented to require "access to a computer to replace handwriting wherever possible". However the school say they don't have any available machines.

While I am appealing to the LEA about the special needs funding I still need a laptop for him that will have at least 4 hours battery life.

I really don't have enough money for an all singing all dancing solution, so, given the statement about startup time etc. of a centrino 1.4.... would this machine (2200) be adequate for MS Office, PaintshopPro etc. for his daily school work? It'll still need wireless(G) & wired networking so I may be better off finding a deal on a machine that includes that. Also, weight will be an issue for him and this one is 3kg.

If anyone knows of a specific better laptop offer please post soon,

    Thanks,

    Mark.

The battery life is dependant load on the processor, the more programs running the harder the processor has to work which means the processor needs to run at a higher speed, which takes more power.

My 2200 running basic wordprocessing shows it as a 221mhz in system properties (a 1.6gig processor) and battery life shows over 4 hours....I do have the Li-ion battery though, My bro gets about 3 hours out of his with the ni-mh battery which is still pretty good for a laptop.

The 2200 comes with wireless built in and a network port (for wired)

And the 1.4 doesn't take 10mins booting up, admitidly, it's slower than mine but still boots in pretty quickly....the boot speed depends on a lot of things not just the processor.

Agreed, my 1.5 Centrino boots up really quickly. It shouldn't be anything to do with how many things you have on it, more likely how many programs load at start up and a lot of these can be disabled using msconfig. This site can help out with that http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

If weight and battery life are important I would go with the Centrino.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
