    Thanks for this info.

I've been with npower for the last 18 months, on their standard tariff  .

After reading your post I checked the comparison sites and found sign on-line the cheapest, a saving of 25% :j

I've just phoned npower and had no problems switching tariff. The lady just asked if I would change supplier if they didn't change my tariff then put me through to retentions, who have changed tariff from today.

    Thank you so much :T

By reading your post I reckon I 've saved approx £250!!!!!

Just to make the point; you haven't saved anything -Yet

You have the potential to save £250 in the forthcoming year, provided that the tariffs remain unchanged.

Obviously I am not suggesting that you should not switch as any saving is worthwhile. However it is a case of 'not counting your chickens' and NPower have a reputation for devious practices. You wouldn't be the first to be lured in to an attractive tariff only for prices to be 're-alligned!!'

Hi, I too have been looking to switch and the comparisons keep coming up with this tariff, one question though, on switching are you tied in at all?

Before I take the plunge and switch from EDF to NPower (as recommended by uswitch), does anyone know of a website which actually compares the consumption rates, in £, for both gas and electricity? uswitch only looks at your direct debit amounts when making its comparisons - it doesn't compare the actual consumption rates.

If you put in the amount of KWH you actually use per year (add up a years worth of bills if you need to) and put this in on uswitch with the tariff you are on then it will compare all tariffs based on this information

If you only put your monthly DD amount in then uswitch will try to guess how much you might be using based on the tariff you have given and it could be quite a bit out.

Always put in your annual KWH figure in for the best results!
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

All of the comparison sites use the rate per kWh and discounts etc when producing results - they cannot use any other method.

However their sole aim is to get you to change supplier and so they get their commission.

If you enter the exact annual consumption in kWh, you will by and large(not always) get accurate results. However if you just put down how much you pay monthly, that gives them much more scope to slant their results toward the company that is paying them the highest commission.

Well as yet, I haven'y saved anything , but last year by following the same proceedure I saved about £280 by switching from British Gas to Npower standard, this I know after scrupiously checking my statements.
The contract they send you outlines all the payments to be made monthly, and to be honest my account is in credit after 1 year and therefore I have been told that my payments will actually decrease for the coming year.
This is before going onto online10!!, which should outline a further decrease.
Anyway xdaisyx , at least some of us are grateful for your post................

I wouldn't use £'s for the comparrison unit - can be influenced FAR too much by tier 1 & 2 discrepencies, standing charges etc.

The only useful comparrison is made with kwh /unit usage

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I tried to go onto their Online 10, having been with them for the past 2 years, but because we have an IGT for gas, they would not let us change to anything other than the standard charge!
Needless to say, we are switching to someone who can reduce our gas.
  • Hello all ... Some advise and help would be hugely appreciated please..

First of all xdaisyx best of luck and thanks for starting this thread! that made me prompt to join in, so 1st time for me!
I do wish you all the best with Npower as I cannot wait to leave them!! Both for high prices and bad customers services.
Tu cut the story short...very sort! I have been in my flat for 10 months now... was shocked to see that my 1st gas bill was for £22 (July), then £133 (Aug to Dec) to follow by £246:eek: (Dec till March incl price increase in Jan)...I only have 1 bedroom flat and I think this is very very expensive and obviously need to switch ASAP..
In order to get the best price comparison I believe it is best to use the kwh usage?! but as I haven't completed a full year i guess my best bet is to "Guess" my usage for the next two months (using previous bill information?) ... any advise?!
I was also chocked to see my bill for my electricity bills as it was £42.50(dec to march), £26.14 (Sept to Dec?!?!) and £42.02 (Jul to sept?!?!?!!).....oh and I don't even have much electrical stuffs and tend to switch from the main plug!

As you can probably tell, I pay quarterly (To my disadvantage I guess but finally dealing with it)

I am in the same situation as girlsmum and have to leave and come back in if I want to sign in for best on line deal...but quite frankly I would prefer not be with npower as they provided me with wrong information few months ago and the only few times I spoke to their customers service staff, not only I found them rude and have the "don't care attitude" but no record of my previous were kept on their system!!!!!)..

Can you help or advise?! ....Many Thanks i advance..

Oh and would anyone know if it is best to put the heating on timed or constant (min temperature during the day and higher in the evening?) as I was told you could pay far more by having it on timed.....

    Many Thanks in advance,
