Hi

Just thought i'd share this with you all, i'm an NPower customer and recently received my annual bill, they have doubled my gas payments to £61.00 a month  so like any good MSEer ive been doing some price comparisons looking to change suppliers, all the price comparison sites have just been throwing back NPower at me but a tarriff called online 10,

I compared the unit rates and they are as follows

the one i was on:

Standard Electricity DAY first 728kWh per year 14.700 additional kWh 13.640

the new one
npower Sign Online 10 Electricity DAY first 728kWh per year 11.792 additional kWh 10.490

and Gas

Standard Gas Monthly Direct Debit DAY first 4572kWh per year 6.433 additional kWh 2.090

changing to
npower Sign Online 10 Gas Monthly Direct Debit DAY first 4572kWh per year 4.919 additional kWh 1.713

So i rang their CS was given a free phone number to call their retentions, I just said can i switch my tarriff to the online 10, had to give them a meter reading and its done! :money:

I did question why i had to find this out for myself and the lovely lady (she really was great) said that due to some government regulation the aren't allowed to inform customers, we have to tell them that we want to change

Anyway, this should save me around £300 a year, i hope it also helps some of you! :D

Forgive me for sounding a bit thick, but I was very interested as I'm on N power direct debit, and was wondering what your gas and electric payments were before you phoned Npower, and what the future payments will be ? (Hoping to save a few quid myself if it's as good as it sounds)

I pay £27 a month electric and my previous gas payment was £35, with the bad winter and a few other reasons the 35 did not cover my bill for last year and i owed them £95 at the year end bill, so this has been added to my payments because i cant afford a lump sum to clear it.

As for what the payments will be, she said to keep them at the amount im on for a month or two then call for an account balance, any overpayment (credit) ill get sent straight back to me and they will adjustment my monthly payment

Used uSwitch to change to NPower online 10 gas+elec. which should save me around £184 a year compared to Southern Electric. That was 2 weeks ago, heard nothing about the switch actually happening. I'm going to have to chase this up.
My gas+elec. bill has gone up loads in the last 6 months.

So XdaisyX, to reiterate, all you did was to complain/question their prices, was put through to retentions and then they reduced your bills by up to £300 per annum, without changing supplier, and the way you pay your bills is the same!!
    This sounds good!!

I didnt question anything, just politely asked about how i would go about changing tarrifs and was given another number to call, i did that, told them the tarriff i'd seen and she just said yes, no problem, asked for a reading and said, its done for you now.

Hey XdaisyX, just went on a comparison site like you did, found online10 cheapest, phoned customer services and asked them to transfer me to online 10 or I would have no option but to leave and go to the next cheapest supplier!
Left me on hold for 3-4 mins, came back and said it was all sorted and I would get confirmation in the next ten days!!!!! Brilliant!!!!
By reading your post I reckon I 've saved approx £250!!!!!
If I could press your thanks button a hundred times I would!!!!
So a big THANK YOU to xdaisyx,

    did anyone else get this????
i dont know what to do now,. any suggestions
  • Before I take the plunge and switch from EDF to NPower (as recommended by uswitch), does anyone know of a website which actually compares the consumption rates, in £, for both gas and electricity? uswitch only looks at your direct debit amounts when making its comparisons - it doesn't compare the actual consumption rates.

    XdaisyX,

Thanks very much for this. Was with Npower Signonline 7 but rang them up and asked about moving to 10. I had already been on the comparison sites but it didn't seem to give any cheaper gas and electricity with any other company. I asked them if it was cheaper and they said yes and are now in the process of moving me onto Signonlin 10.

I have worked it out the electricity will be £52.62 per year cheaper but only £6.49 cheaper for Gas. This makes a very good saving as my bills are £756 per year a 7.8% drop. I didn't think that there were any cheaper tariff's out there for my house. I also used the alternative free phone number to talk to customer services instead of the 0845 number.

    Thanks very much:beer: :T :T :T
