Is this "massage" in full and final settlement, who is it with and what "figure" would you YOU have in mind. ;)

As it's now impractical due to the length of it to read right through this thread, I'm wondering whether anyone has had any experience of reclaiming from Northern Rock? I took out a loan with them last November and was definately told on the phone that the insurance was compulsory - I remember the girl telling me that they could not offer me the loan without me agreeing to take the insurance as well, but at no stage did she indicate that I had an option to go elsewhere for the insurance......am I reading the situation right that I may be able to reclaim? Does anyone had any thoughts, suggestions or advice?

I think you have every right to make a complaint for misselling here. Send them the first template letter off here and wait for their response. I think there is a very good chance you will get this refunded as it was only sold last november and it is not compsusory to have it either as the FSA state that you should be given the option and also be given the option to go elsewhere.

    Hi there.

Get a complaint letter in, obviously you had taken the insurance because you thought it was all part of being accepted as an agreement.
Another words, this was not told otherwise and not explained to you.

You may have had other optional cover to cover you as far as they knew, then why should they expect you to have this ?;)

Anything you can think of - add in the complaint letter, as you will be aware there are lots of other reasons also of why this may have been mis sold, maybe its worth checking out Martin's list where there are also templates on the site.

    Good luck !

Thanks to you both. I was asked on the phone about life assurance etc, and it was as a result of that conversation that the girl stated that they would only offer me the loan if I took the insurance - does that make a difference? I can;t recall her telling me that there was interest payable on it although I do remember her explaining that if I paid it off early I would get a partial refund on the insurance as well as on the loan interest itself. (I think)

I'm intending to have this paid off in December (17 months early!) so when am I best to write to them re the missold policy?
