hi folks i'm new here so go easy, I became a self employed driving instructor way back in 1992, when i bought my first car the vauxhall dealer offered me a GM credit card, i signed up for it and included ppi i can not remember if being self employed was discussed, i still use this car for all my fuel (thats a lot) does any body think i have a case . am i right in thinking ppi does not cover the self employed ???
Some ppi policies let you claim if you are self empolyed and paying class 2 NI. You will have to check your terms and conditions.

If you are thinking of claiming from 1992 then its too far back and the limitations act will apply. You can make a claim from up to 6 years ago.
  • Thanks to everyone for their discussions on First Plus, have sent them a second letter requesting they reply within 14 days, and we will then forward complaint to FOS - we can't afford to wait for ages, especially if FOS are taking a while. So do you think on the FOS form we should put Barclays Bank trading as Firstplus?

Firstly its against Barclays Group plc (trading as First Plus) and not barclays bank and secondly was it outside the jurisdiction of the FOS with Firstplus.
  • Dear All,

I am a newbie here so please excuse, I applied to citi cards for a refund of my PPI on a credit card I had had with them some four years ago, they replied acknowleging reciept of the letter on the 4th July. I then recieved a letter dated the 6th July saying that because I had ticked the box in the application form therefore they had not missold it.

I remember ringing them up reference the insurance enquiring what it covered and we told it covered all repayments if I was ill or injured and could not work, I therefore ticked the box.

What also worries me is that this account has now been inactive and closed for over two years, when I rang them up they told me that it was in fact actually blocked as I had reported the card lost or stolen !!!! and was still active and the PPI was still in force.

If anybody could give me advice regarding the tick in the box defence by citi cards, is it a normal tactic, I would be obliged

Hi all, had a great holiday and am not glad to be back!!! Can see that you've all been rather busy and it's taken a lot of reading to catch up on everything. Anyway here's an update:

Me against Barclays, 1st letter sent to them on 8 May - they received 9 may - letter from them dated 15 may saying they are looking into it and should receive an answer or update by 9 jun 08. 2nd letter from them dated 3 jun saying they are still looking into it but will contact me again by 7 jul. 3rd letter from them dated 3 jul stating " We would like to update you on your complaint; we are currently not in a position to provide you with a full response. We aim to do so as soon as possible. As a full response has taken a little longer than expected you do have the option to ask the Financial Ombudsman service to review your complaint, if you so wish, which explains how you can refer to them, although we very much hope to be able to resolve your complaint without the need for you to do this. We are sorry for the delay and any inconvenience this has caused. If you would like to discuss this further, please call us on 0845 609 0806",

any ideas why it is taking them so long? they will have had 11 weeks on Fri, should I write them another letter, or call them, has anybody else had this - is it just delay tactics? more tonight on dads but got to go back to work now - but will monitor responses from work - may even get to chat a bit who knows!
LTSB PPI - £770 ish for dad
LTSB PPI for dad - £1800 for dad
    Barclays PPI claim for self-£2204
Dads home insurance - reduced by £200 a year "WE DO NOT LIVE IN FLOOD AREA AND I DON'T SEE WHY WE SHOULD PAY FOR THOSE THAT DO - I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOUR SUPERVISOR"!

LTSB for dad - Had sar stuff back - load of rubbish - they just sent another copy of the signed agreement - they stated that if i wanted any telephone conversations I had to submit dates that they were made on - they have not actually supplied a final response yet, and they are over the 8 weeks, should I write on behalf of dad again stating that they are required to provide a final response - should I also point out that they have previously paid him out under the same circumstances? (this one now was a top up loan on the one they have paid him out for) this loan has now been paid off - advice greatfully recieved.

I would report them to the ICO if they are asking you to state the dates of the phone calls. Thats their job i think. I would wirte again and ask for the complete SAR and then threaten ICO and also state that they have already admitted liability on one loan and that this was the top up one so what is the difference.?? PM'd you something

Just started my other claim now against Co-op bank. They have sent one response and i have sent another back. Have to wait and see now

You only really need to give them 8 weeks. I would ring them and then if they still say they need more time then start it off with FOS stating that you have now given them 11 weeks.
