No one seems to be paying much for scrap cars at the moment. I'm getting offers of £80 and £90 for my 2001 206. A friend got £150 for an old Punto last summer.

I don't know if scrap has gone down of if it's just dodgy folk trying to make as much money as possible breaking cars on the side.

Even the ads in the local papers that advertise "minimum £100 paid" still reply with some excuse to pay £70 due to no MOT and tax. Well if it had MOT and tax I'd be selling it as a going concern not a scrapper.
  • HI would appreciate your advice. I have ford focus zetic 1.8 with 198000 mileage and minor dents and scratches . It has MOT until Feb2015 and tax for 3 months. One previous owner but very little service history .it's time to buy another car so time to get rid if the focus but insure whether I can sell it . I checked webuyanycar.com who offer £250 which seems more like a scrap price. I am waiting for my new care sale person to give a value as part exchange but suspect he will give a low price
Any suggestions of best way of selling or scraping the car for a reasonably fair price?
Many thanks for your expert advice.

Plenty of people are looking for a cheap runabout. If it's a runner, with 10 months' MoT and 3 months' tax, someone will bite your hand off. Ebay or Gumtree etc. But I doubt if you would get much more than £400-500 this way, as it's banger territory. £250 from webuyanycar would be a lot less hassle, and is about double the scrap value. (Out of interest, I've just done an online quote for my 8 years/55k miles Mondeo in full working order, and the best scrap price was £130, or half that if collected.)
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

There are now a number of sites which collect Scrap Cars for free from around the country and pay you for the privilege, my favourite is Scrap Car Network as not only do they offer free collection and pay a good price, they also use all profits generated to help a charity.

When do they pay the cash? Had a look at the website but couldn't find where it says when they pay. Not too happy about some company calling themselves a charity taking my car but sending a cheque in post after they have took the car.

Get more if you go direct to Motorhog, these seem to be the scrapper that collects the cars.

Your post may not be spam. But a user who appears from nowhere, re-awakens an old thread and posts a link is certainly spamming in my book.

I heard of a new website called Spam.co.uk the other day, you just enter the details of the car you want to sell and you get an offer instantly! hope this helps.

    Mmm... tasty spam.
