Write a letter to the DVLA explaining what has gone on, send it recorded!!! Have a word with the Environment Agency to see if the company has a license to shift waste.
If they have your car and log book REPORT IT to the DVLA and POLICE then you will be covered!!! Read the last post on here that is what I wrote.....Old thread but ....
I am having an unpleasant experience with an internet car scrapping company ( removemycar ). Having phoned the company for collection of the car I was told to wait for a representative to contact me. They duly did ( or so I believed ) and agreed a time. They turned, up and collected the car, filling in the yellow log book slip and handing over the agreed amount of cash. Fine I thought.
Then, about 15min later, I was contacted by a "real" representative of the company to agree collection. We were both confused and the company is now accusing me of selling the car to another company without notifying them ( which I believed I could have done anyway, although I had no intention of ) and wants me to pay a "consultancy fee" ( hitherto unmentioned ). What it looks like - and it would be an incredible concidence otherwise - that someone has passed on collection information to a third party who have turned up, with the reasonable belief that no one ( true in my case ) is going to question them.
So .. be careful, I doubt this is the only company where this sort of thing happens.
Some questions, though:
Assuming they are telling the truth ( and it's not a scam ) what grounds do they have for demanding a consultancy fee? Not much I should have thought...
Given I cannot not trust the address on the log book, do I have any liability for the car? Do I need to report anything to anyone ( the police? )0 -
Some of us have worked within the industry and seen the things people get up too..tomstickland wrote: »That quote is wonderful scare mongering. One the biggest scrap yards round here pays cash for cars.0

I phoned up one of the local scrappies before and they said that's it's £30 per car taken in no ifs or buts.
But I was in last week weighing in some metal and asked the old guy and he said it's £90/tonne for cars brought in. I don't think they dismantle anything, usually just gets crushed straight away.
The price should be higher further south
You won't really get paid much if they have to come and collect the car. You could try sticking it in your local freeads for say £150ono and see what interest there is
You cant just crush cars.
It has to be environmentally dismantled. The fluids have to be drained off, all of them, separately, the plastics separated from the metal, and the metals separated. Only when you are down to the chassis and the body shell is the car then shredded in a massive machine that turns it into metals confettii. One scrappy down here also melts the aluminum parts down into ingots.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. Put something like chadwicks bolton scrap metal into google, these places are not scrap yards they just deal in the scrap metal and if you are lucky you will get £130 a tonn for your car opposed to £30 from a scrap yardgoldspanners wrote: »stick it on ebay, ive never seen a car even without an MOT or tax go for less than £30.
if your not to bothered how much you get for it.
usually you will get around £50 - £100 for a car with no or little tax or MOT on ebay.
give it a try.0 -
The term Chipping is quite simple, when they send the van man to come and collect your car he is instructed by some not all to chip i.e. knock the agreed price down.
This is done in a manner of ways such as "Sorry but I don't have enough to pay you with will you except"
They will try all sorts to chip you from sob stories to being treating.. Now not all companies do this.. Just be aware, you agree a price stick to it!! If they try anything just say good bye.. They may try and charge you for the diesel to travel to you, seen this before.......0 -
You place the search term scrap my car and areas into google and you may or may not see maps things at the top of the search.. These I would take with a pinch of salt.. I lot of them are from the same companies so your calls link back to the same office.. Great!! So again anything an 084 number at the beginning be careful!!! Pick one with a proper number an 01!!0
