    Hi,

Does anyone know the details of a chinese/asain wholesaler that has recently opened somewhere on the Wirral? I think it's either Birkenhead or Bromborough.

Also, does anyone know what search terms to use when seraching on yell.com for these kind of stores? I'm not having much luck and bring directed to takeaways and restaurants.

    Cheers,

    S.

There is a smallish one which has opened on the business park at Junction 3 on the M53 (opposite Total Fitness, Prenton ) in Wirral. It is handy but not especially cheap and no comparison to the big ones in Liverpool.
Yell.com is useless, they are just listed under 'supermarkets'.
Google the following names in Liverpool, WH Lung, Hondo and Chung Wah.
They are all open to trade and public.

We have an excellent Indian and continental foodstore not far from us. Just the other day, I got 2kg of popcorn for £2.50, 10kg of onions for £2, a HUGE stack of poppadoms for £3 odd - rice is £11 for 10kg basmati (amazing price!) and.....AND, they do MUTTON. I LOVE mutton. Hard to get a hold of around here, but at £3 a kilo, I stock up when I go :D
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

That is a good price. I recently paid £7.99 for 5kg and thought that was good!

ahh yes I love my chinese and indian markets- the indian one for spices, nuts, pulses, rice, lamb and chicken, the chinese for sauces and the biggest, tastiest, frozen king prawns - a huge bag hat does about 4 meals for £7

  • hi everyone

Went to Oriental City last week in Colindale and seems my information was incorrect. Sorry about that. I don't know how the Chinese girl got the information, but it's still boarded up and according to the local paper will not be re-opening as most of the stores and restaurants have relocated elsewhere.

I have been going to wing yip which is gorgeous, huge, cheap and has an amazing variety of things, I even buy most of my gluten free flours and rice wrappers (to make spring rolls with) there, and they're half the price of other places.

    Cheers

    Really useful post Sadiedoll, thanks.

I wish I had a Chinese supermarket nearer to me than B'ham.
Wing Yip does home deliveries within a certain radius. But non perishables only.

Beeston in Leeds or Nottingham? (They are the two I know of!)

We go to Hansons in Nottingham, mentioned on here before, used to be near the Broadmarsh but has moved up to Hockley, and get loads of frozen Dim Sum, prawn toast etc and have a 'home made' chinese meal every now and then, lovely!

I used to live opposite a great Turkish supermarket in Manchester and still miss the lovely bread they used to do, and the aisles of different types of olives, halva etc, brilliant!
