  • I have found that by writing down all the amounts that I spend each month I have gone from
    July food £162 98 petrol £75.00
August food £109.57 Petrol £92.00 (went on holiday to Norfolk)
    Sept:so far Food £89.11 Petrol £61.00
It's amazing where the cash goes to and untill you note down every single penny you don't realise how it seems to disappear.
I am hoping that I will get the petrol bill down a bit as I am walking a bit more ,although as I am slightly disabled it's not always an option. But my freezer is slowly reducing in volumn of food that is stored there and the tins in the cupboard are going down too.
If you think about it stored food is cash in your pocket. My old Mum never had a great deal of stored food as it was war-time and there wasn't a lot of food about ,but we never went hungry and she raised three of us on 'buttons' compared to the amount of money there is around now. I am definately keeping a closer eye on my cash from now on and am going to see if I can stretch it out even more.I have read through some of the letters and think I must be able to do better as there is only little old me to feed.

    Morning all

Well I totted up receipts so far and we're at £250 (budgeted £200)...then I looked at the receipts for non essentials which added to £68  However, i count vodka as non essential whereas OH disagrees :D I told him last night that we're gonna do a freezer inventory - he looked at me like I was mad

So...gotta try not to do any more shopping apart from milk etc until the end of the month. Not too bad for our first month I don't think.

Just done this weeks shop (£12.26) but I still need to buy some potatoes - I wasn't prepared to pay 84p for a 250g bag of washed potatoes - I know I can get them cheaper locally.

So I have £3.11 to last me until the 27th - I think I can do it as I have loads of eggs in the fridge which are best before tomorrow so I'm going to get creative!

  • I've just been updating my monthly budget spreadsheets (fell behind a bit last couple months :o ) but I'm really quite pleased to see that I've stayed on track quite well, and this month in particular I've come in well under target! :T

I have been using up freezer/storecupboard stuff the last week or so but it's still stuff that's only really accumulated over the last 6 mths so was originally bought within the budget allowance anyway! :j

I work on a 4-week month (due to benefits being paid 4 weekly) so I get a bit skewiff with the calender months, which means this period ends on 3rd October, so about 10 days to go yet.

My budget is £220 for me and DS, but that includes all food, household, toiletries, tobacco, alcohol and any delivery charges I have to pay (which I equate to a petrol allowance if I had a car and was going out to do the shopping!)

This is what I've spent so far this month ...

Organic grocery - £31.80 (£10 was poultry so should be added to meat really)
    Organic meat - £42.38
    Tesco - £68.76
    Local shops - £16.29
    Chinese groceries - £16.42

    Total = £175.65

And the only thing I'm really going to need to buy withinin the next 10 days is milk! So, I'm about £40 under budget without really trying!!! :j :j

My September challenge was to spend £80 on food for me and the cat. Payday is Oct 6 so am nearly there (only one more shop to go), and so far have spent £25.23 including a cheap bottle of wine and pizza as a treat (pizza was BOGOF) plus £5.62 on fruit at work, but technically that comes from another budget. V pleased!
