Was it the Pan Am? Yes Never had that happen to me in there, you must have a dodgy face ;)i think it might be more to do with my accent than my face ! ............glaswegian :D

I know it gets very busy in there on a match day with travelling footy fans,
it was around 7 pm on a Monday night ,

Sometimes I wonder if the front of house staff are hired based on their looks and not based on their skill at the job :o , well that's a problem Liverpool shares with the rest of the uk , decline in customer service

Thanks for the tips on decent places to eat , for future reference.

top mse tip for eating out in glasgow - priceyourmeal is an auction site for meals , some very decent restaurants.

    - oran mor in the west end
india quay at the new bridge over the clyde , 5 mins from your hotel
la fiorentina - paisley road west
konaki - greek , sauchiehall st
tapell'ya in the radisson is quite nice , went there 2x 3 course meal , with a bottle of house wine and coffees , £30 via PYM
    red onion
the ubiquitous chip - west end

the buttery is meant to be lovely , but i haven't been yet - argyle street

I'm also interested to know which restaurant this was? I'm an ex-pat Scouser with plenty of family still there, and have never come across this. I did find a petrol station in Knotty Ash where you had to pay before filling up though. That was a bit of a shock!

I visit Liverpool 2 or 3 times a year as most of my family originated there. I have encountered this in Liverpool's Chinatown, where they expect you to pay for a meal on the way in. I was quite surprised, but the waitress implied that if they didn't do this, nobody would end up paying!:o

We have given up staying in central Liverpool as most of the places are pretty mediocre. A special mention for the Formule 1, which we stayed in once, for a single night in an emergency. It is without question the worst dump I have ever stayed in. Filthy, noisy, full of loud drunks, no poroper locks on doors, it was an unbelieveable hovel. We arrived at 11pm and were gone by 8.30am - couldn't get out quick enough.;)

yes , i had it there also ......... in some huge chinese buffet place , that the taxi driver recommended to us ! on the street just opposite the big chinatown entrance

although i wasn't as offended there as i was in , what i thought was a nice place.

  • Sorry if I am upsetting anyone but Liverpool is a dump. It was only given Capital of Culture to try and give it a regeneration boost. There is still an awful lot to be done. have only been there through work but wouldn't want to spend any leisure time there. It's as rough as a bears backside, everyone wears shellsuits still!!!
  • everyone wears shellsuits? really? i must have been walking with my eyes closed, did you last visit in the 80's?, if you don't want to upset people don't insult a city close to alot of peoples hearts.

I'll have to look out for the shellsuits next time I'm out. I've not seen any in a long time!

Liverpool is a great city, yes it has its problems but what city doesn't? The only problem I have with it is the insane re-routing and traffic problems.

Mr SP - you did pick the worst hotel in the whole area, you should have looked up Formule 1 on Trip Adviser first, it has the most horrendous reputation. Cheap it maybe but I'd rather pay out a little extra!

    Thanks Dolby

I'll write the idea of staying over off (we are only 20 miles away anyway) but check for cancellations on the day itself.

I love going out in Liverpool and have always felt safe, more so than in Southport lol! Totally and utterly looking forward to it, you can tell I don't get out much without my ankle biters tagging along :-)
