cwp500 that is the worst post I Have ever seen, not only is it untrue, it's downright lies.
Where did you get this from?

Liverpool has no worse problems from drugs etc than any other major city in this country.

    No anger from liverpudlians please.

Do be extra careful if you are unfamiliar with this city; there are beggars, pedlars and street musicians who may seem colourful but are actually part of organised gangs of pickpockets and muggers.

The once famous friendliness of the city appears to have been hijacked by criminals. Liverpool still has a major drugs and street crime problem everywhere so you must be extra vigilant of your belongings and wallets.

Obvious one but dont be seen using a map or A-Z, it targets you as a victim right away.

Merseyside police are very stretched at the best of times but the McCartney show will bring the robbers out in droves.

There is very sound advice on the Merseyside Police Website on protecting yourself in public from street criminals.

    Otherwise, enjoy your holiday.

This post gives out once again the wrong impression of Liverpool. Ive visited other cities in the UK and Europe and some of them look no worse than Liverpool.

Im just wondering has the poster visited Liverpool? If so, when.

If if was over the last 12 months, come and have a look after May when the magnificent Liverpool One Project opens. The new arena is now open with amazing concerts. An 8000 sell out at a darts event this week and the organisers have said already they are coming back.

Im sure ANYONE on here who is visiting any city and is unsure of where they are going all they have to do is ASK, someone will tell them if that location is ok

Its disappointing that the media portray our lovely city the wrong way at times which doesnt help individual views.

agme28. just had a major search for city hotels for you even the one posted earlier has no availability http://www.throstlesnesthotel.co.uk/about.htm .

lastminute.com has the suites in knowsley availabe for £85 but then you will end up paying £20 each way in taxis. Probably worth while keeping an eye on premier travel inns. rooms become available here as people cancel their bookings as there is no charge upto the day before, if i remember correctly. I have had many central city hotels last minute that way

I am sure some hospitable scousers would but you and your friend up for the night haha best of luck.

i'm sorry to say , but in a city where you have to pay for your meal in a decent restaurant (in albert dock)- before you've eaten it obviously has problems .
As part of my part of my job , i travel extensively throughout the uk and abroad a few times per year and have never been asked to pay for a meal beforehand .
Apart from that i thought liverpool city centre a safe enough and friendly city and with the ongoing regeneration for the city of culture i'm sure it will look lovely too .

cpw500 - where in the uk are you from ?

I am intrigued which restaurant this was as I have eaten in most places on the dock and never been asked to pay first

I'm also interested to know which restaurant this was? I'm an ex-pat Scouser with plenty of family still there, and have never come across this. I did find a petrol station in Knotty Ash where you had to pay before filling up though. That was a bit of a shock!

Lots of North Liverpool stations have this, its been like it since the late 80's. Same as the off licences where they are big perspex rooms with a little slot to put your money through, been like that since I was a kid :rotfl:

I've lived in rural Cumbria for years, so forget what it's like in the city! Last time we visited my sister we stopped outside an off-licence to get a couple of bottles of wine. I got out of the car, and was amazed to see my sis locking herself in! She also told me to put my purse out of sight while I walked the 20 metres to the offy!:rotfl:

An American type place ,2 doors along from the premier travel inn can't quite remember the name , as i felt quite indignant and left - without eating !

it was more the way that the staff handled the issue that annoyed me, than the policy itself.

Was it the Pan Am? Never had that happen to me in there, you must have a dodgy face ;)

I know it gets very busy in there on a match day with travelling footy fans, on days like that some places get you to pay first as the turnaround is quicker because most go in for a quick pint and a bite so they would rather be in and out quickly.

It doesn't excuse the way you were dealt with though, unfortunately many of the bars on the dock suffer with having dreadful service. Sometimes I wonder if the front of house staff are hired based on their looks and not based on their skill at the job :o

Hopefully this may be of some use to others, there are some great places to eat where you will be treated like royalty. The Maharaja on London Road is a great Kerala Indian place, The Monro is a gastropub that specialises in locally produced ingredients, The Rosco Head is a lovely pub that does great bar meals (the landlady is a scream), The Quarter does a good lunch (salads, pizza, mezze) and all are very reasonable. For higher end try London Carriage Works, Fillini in the Radisson, Spire in Allerton, 60 Hope Street, Heathcotes and Meet Argentinian.
Sugarvine is usually fairly accurate for most places :D
