I tend to make it up as I go along, if it all goes wrong I just call it foccacia (sp?) and serve it up with soup lol! My ds makes fab soft bread rolls by hand, like proper shop ones, will ask him for his recipe and post it for you later.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Just back from Asda
It is now 75p a bag - thank god I realised I was running low yesterday and went yesterday and got 10 bags !!! Now have 13 bags in stock cupboard.
Their plain flour has also gone up to 75p. I actually nearly cried in the aisle !!!
I didn't buy any more flour but have bought a few bags of rice and pasta - not that I am a panicker at all

It may be one of Asda's roll-back price cons.
Some time ago, Asda was selling 600ml double cream at 2 for £1.50. I bought some, made butter, and a week later went back for some more. It had gone up to over £1 per pot, I forget the exact price but it was horrendous.
A few weeks later, it was back to 2 for £1.50, and they had a big "roll back" price ticket on it.
Then it went up again. Then it went down again, with a "roll back" price ticket.
That's how they can justify their claims that they roll back so many thousands of prices. It's just a con.
Maybe they are doing the same with the bread flour so they can advertise that, despite the hike in grain, they have " reduced" the price of their flour.0 -
Tesco online here still says 48p and Lidl was still the same yesterday
Yes, I use plain or half and half for white bread, I haven't found it any different to be honest.
mummysaver a recipe for really soft rolls would be great, I've tried many and failed (even with strong flour)One day I might be more organised...........

White flour does for quite a while if kept in an airtight container to keep the bugs out (note when the use by date is before storing).
Wholemeal doesn't keep so long as it has the oils in it which makes the flour go rancid faster.
I open all my bags of flour up and chuck them into a (clean and dry!) brewing bucket that I keep in the corner of the kitchen - I have made a little pink padded cushion to go on the top of it so that it doubles up as a kitchen stool!!0 -
