Does this mean I can book VIRGIN Value 1st 14 day advance and go Liverpool to London return 1st class for £27 (£13.50 each way) instead of the usual £54?0

hum, very interesting indeed, BUT what if the only train journey that interests you has to be on the 24 december?
You can book open return tickets up to 30 November, the return leg is then valid up to 30 December. Handy if your 24th December journey is a single.0 -

You can still save on booking after the three month period, i.e. for Christmas... but it gets a little tricky. Here's how:
1. Book a ticket for the latest day that the system will allow... N.B. The only options will be Saver Returns and Open Returns this far ahead. If you are certain that you could get an Apex fare for cheaper later on, then this option may not be for you. Savers and Open returns do, however, give a lot more flexibility of travel times than Apex fares.
2. Wait for your tickets to arrive in the post.
3. Close to the date of travel booked on the tickets, pop in to your local railway station and ask to change the date of travel on your tickets. This is allowed in the T&C's for the Saver Return and the Open Returns.
4. You may be charged a £5 or £10 admin fee for making this change, but you are still likely to be saving more than buying a full price ticket at Christmas time.
5. Smile as you walk out of the station with your new tickets and seat reservations, as you have just saved yourself a packet by thinking ahead!
Ticket terms and conditions can be found here if you need more assurance...

joffmeister wrote:The site is refusing all of my cards - quite annoying as I've just spent the last hour piecing together a journey using a number of singles.
Has anyone else had problems with credit card verification? It's unlikely there's a problem with any of my cards and certianly not all of them.
The support number they give a) is the number of TheTrainLine and b) is only open until 10pm.
I'll try again in the morning, hopefully they'll have sorted the problem by then.
Getting the same problem, will try again later, hopefully work before the offer expires!0 -
Yup works this morning after second attempt - get it while you still can everyone!!!0

Many thanks to OP for the heads up on this one. Just saved over £50.0

For anyone who has received the tickets, do they say the 50% off price on the individual tickets, or the original full price?
Thanks.0 -
I have just saved £32.20 [full price £64.40] on a trip to visit my sister next month. I am now going to book a ticket to visit my daughter in November!
Thanks for the tip :T:hello: N:hello:A :hello:N :hello:A :hello:M :hello:A :hello:G :hello:S :hello:0 -
Having the same card authorisation problems as mentioned above - any ideas how I can rectify this?
Thanks in advance0
