    Hi,

My wife makes a fab yorkshire pudding mix and although quantities are 'bucket and spade' she tells me its :

    half pint milk
    1 egg
    4 oz plain flour.

She also tells me the important thing is to put a bit of oil in the pan/tin and it has to be very hot before mixture goes in, so that mixture sizzles. Oven has to be hot to to get a good yorkie!

I know this may be vague, so Im sure youll get better info!!

    Thanks, :):)

Exactly the same as above, but also pinch of salt.

Mix it all up and according to my father in law, let the mixture stand for half an hour before cooking it for maximum rise!

also, couldn't agree more about the getting the dripping/lard/oil hot before you pour in the mixture - this really makes a difference and also don't keep opening the oven!

So, mix everything up, turn the oven on and heat up some dripping/lard/oil in bottom of suitable pan.

Meanwhile, fry the sausages to brown all over (you don't need to do this, as they'll cook in the oven, but they never look as good).

then when pans hot enough, pour in the mixture and chuck the sausages on top, then put in oven.

Proper tempreture for yorkshires is gas mark 7 for 20-30 minutes, but I prefer to do it for longer on a lower temp.

I haven't had toad in the hole for ages - we'll be having it tonight though!
4oz rice crispies, 4oz butter, 4 mars bars.
Melt, mix, cool, eat. Yummy! ;)

The recipe above is perfect, However, when I moved house and changed ovens I found my yorkies wouldn't rise on one egg. If this happens to you use two eggs in the batter and they should be fine. If you want to make your Yorkies crisper replace half the milk with water.

I bake plain individual Yorkies at 220c for 20-25mins and Toad-in-the-hole at 200c for 45mins- 1 hour. I do not pre-cook or brown my sausages but bung it all in together.

Providing you ensure the tin and oil is hot and do not open the oven door they should be fine and much cheaper than buying them.

Toad in the hole is in the oven as we speak - We used to have this quite often and just got out the habit - I don't know about anyone else, but we find that we seem to eat the same old food week in, week out, so this has just brought something we'd forgotton about back in!

    Thanks fairygirl

Mmmmmm! There's nothing nicer that good Yorkie Puds.

    I use

    5 oz plain flour
    pinch salt
    2 large eggs
    6 fl oz milk
    2 fl oz water

Mix flour, salt and eggs to a paste then mix in milk and water.

Blitz with a stick blender if you've got one or whisk like mad by hand.

Stick the mixture in the fridge for half an hour.

Heat the oil in your tin/ or whatever you're using. Get the oil so that it's smoking hot (top of the oven, full whack for 10 mins)

Re-whisk the mixture just before taking the tin out of the oven, once it's out be quick and pour in the mixture then throw in the sausages. Get it in the oven quickly and carefully.

Turn the heat down to 200 degrees (GM7 I think?) and DONT OPEN THE DOOR for a good 25 mins.

    :)
Just run, run and keep on running!

    :) Hi again,

another great money saving tasty recipe is Corned beef hash!

    1 tin corned beef
    1 small onion
    1-2 cloves garlic
    Tin tomatoes
    Tom puree
    herbs and seasoning to taste
    1 Ib potatoes

    Boil potatoes, mash.
chop onion, garlic.....lightly fry. Add rest of ingredients,
warm through. Transfer to oven proof dish, top with mash and cook in oven til mash browns.......approx 25 mins, gas mark 5. For a tastier alternative add cheese and chives to mash.... Mmmmmmmm!!!

Then theres cheese and potatoe pie/home made burgers etc etc.......

    Hope it helps! :)

Can anyone tell me how deep a toad in the hole tin should be? I don't have a suitable tin (I think). Only thing I've got at the mo is a 2lb loaf tin.

    Thanks
