  • So sorry LesD - I missed your reply on 1st October - never made it to Galicia, broke a tooth a few days before I was due to leave and it developed an infection - so had to cancel in favour of a dental visit (or two)

Some confusion with Falmouth and Newquay and my reference to Google maps and the public transit plotting. I was referring to National Express.

Sorry for the confusion. Have rebooked a break in Tenerife for December - as long as my mother stays fit I just might finally make a holiday. It really has been one of those years.

I live in Bucks, I read somewhere if I show my bus pass to the train ticket office, I can get 1/3 off a train ticket. Does anybody know anything about this? Thanks

I doubt this, otherwise they would not be able to sell their yearly 1/3rd off tickets for the elderly/disabled. My wife's yearly ticket is due for renewal later this month, if you are right, then I need not proceed to replace it.

Some local authorities subsidise the rail card too.
(When I went to my local station (but unfortunately NOT in my borough!) the ticket clerk said "Do you know you can get the card half price through the council")

email to our local council on its way.

    Sir/Madam
Maybe you would direct this to the appropriate department.
It is my understanding (from https://www.moneysavingexpert.com) that most councils will give 50% towards the cost of a National Railcard for registered disabled people. The annual cost for one of these cards is currently £18. My wife's card is due for renewal before the end of November so I would like to know how she should apply.
I very much look forward to a swift reply.Yours sincerely*******************

  • I don't know how many of you picked it up in the daily papers, but Scarborough council were bleating on about how much the free bus pass was costing to run and how long they could sustain it without Government help. I wonder when other areas are going to start? Just this week I was on our local bus into town and I paid special attention to those passengers who paid, 1 in 10 give or take.

I can afford to run a car but I wonder how many seniors are eternally grateful for the chance to get out and about to places they could not normally afford.

I went into the office and asked and was told to go and query this at the local station. The information is a bit misleading, it depends on the street you live and the station has got a list of streets which qualify for the 1/3 off. Very strange, will have to go and check whether my street qualifies.

Sorry if this is a bit off thread but I was browsing and was not sure about who qualifies for the over 60's pass. Am I right in thinking that whatever my means I would qualify for free bus travel at 60?
    Awaiting a new sig

Yes - it's purely age related. You have to provide ID with proof of age and address and either supply or pay for a photo.
