Anchor mature cheddar is on special offer at Asda ...£2.00 for 400g making it cheaper that the value/smart price version which I usually buy. I buy the stronger flavour cheese as you need to use less! I love to make quiche and cheese sauce for pastas etc.

Anything on offer cheddar wise. Camembert, brie and other nice cheese from Lidls. Treat ourselves to a whole Stilton at Christmas from the Italian deli (good excuse to get the port our!) However. DH picked up Red Leicester last week yellow stickered. Find it a bit bland but fine in the cheese sauce I made tonight.

for eating we like the Cathedral City red packet (best at room temp or microwaved for a few seconds), but will eat pilgrims choice at a push. But for cooking any of the mild cheddars will do. Davidstow is lovely but not so reliable - sometimes its old sock cheese.

    hiya,

i dont know if this will help but i scrimp on a lot of stuff but not cheese, i cant stomach value stuff as which ever one i have tried its been vile, either like plastic or crumbly

if i buy for eating, ie cheese n crackers or cheese on toast i always get cathedral , i normally wait til its on offer though and stock up then (its on 3 small packs for £4 at the mo at asda :D ), i also like laughing cow light too. 5 counties is an occasional treat too :o

if its for general cooking i will get own make cheese (mature, not budget range), but sometimes even that aint so great. tescos own make irish cheddar is lovely though.

one thing i would say is obviously when you are buying, make sure the packaging isnt too slack as it means air has got in so the cheese prob wont be v nice.
Please be nice to all moneysavers!

    I never knew that.

I'll probably get into trouble for handling all the cheeses now. :o :rotfl:
