Pilgrims Choice or Cathedral Extra Strong Cheddar for us. It's pricey, but I buy the huge pieces on special offer, and cut them up and freeze them into smaller portions as there is only me and OH to eat it!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I don't buy mild cheddar at all, but I do get through a lot of mature cheddar (on toast and in sauces) and for that I tend to go for whatever is on a decent offer. It generally seems to be possible to find a special offer that works out at £5 a kilo (usually this will be in the form of a 400g block for £2). However the last one I bought was a deal where you get 3 x 225g packs for... was it a fiver? I can't remember the name of the stuff, but it was very nice! This was from Asda so you should be able to find it. It was on the bit of the pick & mix cheese fridge where it's effectively a pick & mix of medium sized packets rather than tiny ones - if that makes any sense!

The only other cheese I use on a very regular basis is Parmesan, and I get that from Lidl or Aldi as it's brilliant value :)

I have to have my weekly fix of The Dairy House, Weobley, tasty cheddar.

It is tangy and creamy and makes the best cheese and onion sandwich

I usually but any strong/mature cheese that is on a special offer. My favourite cheese is Old Amsterdam, but it's quite expensive and difficult to find. We were in Holland last Summer and bought lots of different cheeses back with us, heaven!

We have for many years bought Asdas value mild cheddar and been quite content with the taste and texture. But for the last 3-4 month it's been awful. The texture has been crumbly and falling a part, which I would perhaps expected had it been mature but the taste has also been less than satisfying.
I've tried to use up the cheese by hiding it in food and sauces but both OH and the children has noticed and complained that the food does not taste nice.
So most month I have ended up throwing cheese away.
I don't know what cheese to buy now. We all like Cathedral but it costs more than I'm willing to pay considering we eat quite a lot of cheese.
Any recommendations of a reasonable priced tasty cheese that could be used in sandwiches, lunch boxes and added to sauces/meals?
I complained about this and got £5.00 from them.;)

We both like Double Gloucester/Red Leicester and I like Wensleydale/Caerphilly as well. OH really prefers Orkney Mature Cheddar, when he can find it - but it's way too strong for my tastebuds!

Lidl's cheeses are very good and tend to be on the same pricing structure as the big supermarkets value brands but taste better. In fact their mature is too strong for us and their mild is very nice and creamy.

I think the best mature chedder is Colliers in the black packet. Not that cheap though but sometimes on offer.

Just got back from ASDA and they have Seriously Strong Chedder for £2 a block on offer. It is also nice.
