What cheese do you buy?

We have for many years bought Asdas value mild cheddar and been quite content with the taste and texture. But for the last 3-4 month it's been awful. The texture has been crumbly and falling a part, which I would perhaps expected had it been mature but the taste has also been less than satisfying.
I've tried to use up the cheese by hiding it in food and sauces but both OH and the children has noticed and complained that the food does not taste nice.
So most month I have ended up throwing cheese away.
I don't know what cheese to buy now. We all like Cathedral but it costs more than I'm willing to pay considering we eat quite a lot of cheese.
Any recommendations of a reasonable priced tasty cheese that could be used in sandwiches, lunch boxes and added to sauces/meals?

Value mature cheddar from wherever I happen to be as a rule, unless branded is on offer and is cheaper per kg"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Iceland's cheap one isn't bad. We go through an awful lot of cheese, I tend to stock up if it's on offer though (tesco currently has a maturish one on offer and it's really nice):staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

I have tried value cheddar and red leicester in the past but didn't like it. To me, it just tastes of salt, and cheese on toast turns into an oil slick! I'd rather pay more and get a smaller piece of a cheese that has lots of flavour and really enjoy it - but then I'm a bit of a cheese addict, so each to their own!weaving through the chaos...0

i stocked up in asda when they had the cathederal 2 packs for £3, its the only one ill really eat
though was a bit naughty last month and spent £10 on 4 small speciality cheeses but they were SOOOO good, extra mature, cheddar and cranberry and 2 garlic and herb cheddar. (mmmm garlic and herb prepare to be crackered....)0 -
We always go for Cathedral city, is only one 4 yr old son will eat. Tried him with all the ohers but he always knows when its not cathedral lol0

I use Wexford from Asda as I found the value one had a strange taste. I like my cheddar to have a creamy taste/texture. Sometimes this can be difficult to get hold of, it seems to sell quite well.0
