yep thats cool will put pics as soon as they are here (or looking cute at least). have got two possible homes already lined up with family friends so fingers crossed there isnt too many kittens. x

Dont worry my brothers cat had kittens (his ex let her out before having her done...) when she was about 5 months old. And although she was young she survived wonderfully!

My brother left her to it, but made sure he was there for the birth incase she needed help. I remember the vet saying to feed her kitten food near the end / after the birth to help her with milk etc.

But she was a wonderfull mum and let us all handle the kittens from very early (which meant they are all people lovers now).

Now would be an excellent time to start feeding her kitten food as she will need the extra protein to feed the kittens, and keep her on this until they are all fully weaned (5-7 weeks). It makes weaning that bit easier too if they are eating same food as mum.

Don't forget to get her booked in to be spayed once they're all weaned too - best time to do it would be around 8-10 weeks as the kittens will be ready for re-homing then and she will be ready to come into season again

oh yes have the vets number to hand for as soon as the milk has dried up, (she was booked in for speying when the vet told us she was pregnant how gobsmacked was i) she could of only got pregnant the few days before we took her in cause we have had her 8 weeks now (time flies when its so much fun) and she is due next week.

i have a few ext family members that want a kitten so fingers crossed it will be a small litter and i already have homes, if she has more than four though im !!!!!!ed.

LOL! well if this is her first litter it should be (fingers crossed) quite small, although having said that, two of mine had 6 kittens each in their first litters! :eek:

Does she look very big at all? If you're really gentle you could have a feel for the kittens and see if you can work out how many there are

ETA: Just re-read the first bit and if she was "only just" pregnant (how did the vet know?) then I'm surprised he didn't go ahead and spay her anyway If you've had her 8 weeks, and gestation is approx 9 weeks, then she must have got pregnant literally days before you got her!

yes im knd of thinking that before we got her in the house she was really really skinny where she hadnt had food and she ate quite a lot at once and got a bit podgy/bloated and when i took her in to get speyed i said to the vet is there any chance she could be pregnant and i think he just said yeah cause she looked bloated, 50 / 50 chance he was right and just so happened she def is now so going on the 9 weeks thing she is due end of this week beginning of next, (if only we had got her indoors a week earlier) lol

popped down to the cat sanctuary this morning and had a chat about kittens and labour and what to do etc so feel a bit more prepared now. will let you know what happens. x

Currently have a nursing cat and 3 kittens. They're so funny, tumbling around, walking over each other and their Mum, biting, running, falling and generally acting crazy and stupid. In other words, typical kittens! It's an amazing story actually, th mother cat is a semi-stray that used to come to me for food occassionally. Then one day she walked straight in the front door with a kitten in her mouth! Then she left the kitten and went away. Back she came through the open window with another, and then another! I had an instant cat family I wasn't expecting.
