This can't be anything to do with saving bandwidth. If your connection is idle, how would you be using up other users bandwidth?

I'm amazed at this move. I hope they get punished by a mass exodus of customers. This would also put any other ISP off from doing this.

I'm so glad I'm with a top quality ISP (Zen).

I totally agree - we don't need PlusNet giving other ISPs ideas...

The general concensus is that PN may be running out of connections to the BT centrals, as said above by blinky.

that's disgusting - the whole point of ADSL is constant connection.

Remember that for those that are unfortunate to be with them then seek advice from CAB / Trading Standards otherwise you'll get charged a disconnection fee and/or modem fee. As mentioned in previous posts, I think (well hope) this is illegal as it is PN who have changed their t&c and as these t&c are not in favour of their customers then I'm sure it comes under the unfair t&c act, etc or some other law and hopefully you wont have to pay a disconnection charge and/or modem charge for something that is not your fault.

I signed up with them a couple of months ago, and the first I heard of it was here. I've had no communiction from PN at all, so no change of T&C's. (So far)

As my local exchange (newly enabled in a rural area) and handles very little broadband traffic, I'm wondering if this is going to be aimed at city residents or busy exchanges.

I must say that the last 2 months have been 100% trouble free - and I was feeling pretty contented!

Mails are being sent out to all PlusNet users over the next few days.

The changes will apply to the T&C of all broadband plus users.

Unless you run a server off the connection or similar I don't see the problem. I always disconnect my broadband modem when I've finished online. I take it this isn't what most people do! To me the point of BB is that it is much faster than dilaup, not that it can be always on although I can see how plenty of users would make use of the latter for things like servers, VOIP etc.

On the other hand could the cut-off be an indication of capacity problems at Plusnet?
